My girlfriend and I have been together for 5 years now and I am finally taking her on the trip she has been wanting for a long time. I have wanted to propose for some time now and am thinking this might be a good opportuity. Thanks for any advise you may have.

If you'd take me to a beach in Mexico, I'd gladly marry you. Except I'm already married. Really, this sounds like the perfect opportunity to pop the question. See if the hotel can help you with flowers and champagne or anything else that might please her and try to find the perfect beach setting. Very romantic. Go for it. And let us know how it turns out!

That's a beautiful idea. How romantic. Everyone is suggesting proposing at sunset... But you see, sunset symbolises the end of something ( end of the day here)
I suggest you propose to her at the crack of dawn. I shall assume you will be staying together at the hotel. Even if you are not, wake her up as early as possible, maybe 3 or something... well in advance that is. She's sure to get bugged and she might curse you. Drag her out of bed, and order her to get ready. (element of surprise - she'll think u've gone crazy and will never expect a proposal coming up)
See to it that her favourite food is ordered as breakfast. Or if the restaurant below will be open, at the point of time (I've never been to one, so I dono) then have an early breakfast. She'll be in a grumpy mood. Then drag her for a walk, and walk into the sea! Yes - do it!!! Unless you don't want to take the risk of her being bitten by Jelly fish! And I hope there are no Sting Rays there. And stone fish that ***** your feet and inject poison. I really dono anything about Mexico... find out about all this well in advance. And then, when you are as deep as upto a li'l water above your knees, hold her shoulders and turn her towards you. Then clasp her hands and whisper, "Will you marry me...." Or in any other style you wish to.
That would sweep her off her feet! (So you get to pick her up and walk out) Heh heh! On a more serious note - I think you outta do this, but don't if you don like it. But she would just so so so love it. She'll tell her friends, her kids and grandchildren! Atleast, I would!
Good luck. Don't carry a ring into the sea!!! Beach either unless you are sure you wont drop it and lose it in the sand. You can always keep that part of the surprise waiting in the hotel room.

Sounds like a fabulous place to propose. My suggestion? Let the hotel staff know what you are planning after you get there. I'm sure they'd be willing to help you make it even more romantic with flowers, champagne, maybe pack you a picnic basket to take with you...because of course you don't want to do it with 50 other bodies around you...find a nice quiet spot, spread out a blanket, pour some champagne, open your basket and get out a nice bit of fruit or cheese or something that you can feed each other (chocolate is a girl's best friend, other than diamonds, of course)...and when the time is right, propose. I'd suggest early evening...with at least an hour until dark. When you're done you could lay on your blanket and watch the stars in the sky. Good luck!

Sounds romantic. Just see if you can find a little screen to put up, and a towel to sit on. Getting sand everywhere, and having the wind blow it in you're face is no fun.
But otherwise it sounds perfect.
