I have an ab-lounge and up until about 6 months ago, I had a regular abdominal workout going. I decided to resume that today since my move is finally complete. Since, I haven't done it in a while, I planned on taking it easy. I did about 25 situps on the ablounge and my stomach started having a spasm. The muscle would get real tight (like a charlie horse) and last about 5 seconds and go away. I tried a few more and it did it like four more times. I did not know if this was an indication of a problem so I stopped. Is this normal? Am I just out of shape? If not, what could it be? Could I be sick or something?

It is a muscle spasm caused by overworking the abs. Any muscle will spasm like that if you work it too much too soon.

You may be using the device improperly, or it may be that your abs are rebelling. I believe it's best to do ab workouts without devices. There are plenty of moves you can do to work your abs. The only device I might use is a chair for my lower abs in which I sit down, hold onto the seat, and lift my knees up, but you really have to make sure your back is strong enough because arching your back in any way while doing ab exercises will defeat your purpose and can harm your back.
