I read the current answers and they are 100% right. I just recently found out that all tv's and monitors are measured from top left corner to bottom right to get the correct measurement.

Well since no one mentioned this I will. With a CRT as in your TV or older monitors they measure the tube diagonally, but that includes the edge of the tube that is covered. On the other hand an LCD is also measured diagonally, but it is the viewable distance, so on average a 20" CRT will only have 19" of viewable space, but a 19" LCD will have 19" of viewable space.

All TVs and monitors are measured diagonally from corner to corner. So you are correct in the measurement you have taken.

IT IS SO SIMPLE:
It is measured as the DISTANCE from one corner to another
or you can say the DIAMETER of screen square
BUT :
the visible AREA may be little less than the standard size you have
