I used to have panic attacks everyday when I would go out. It kept me from bonding with co-workers, I hated going to parties and I eventually just didn't leave my house. Medication does help, I was on Xanax for many years. Eventually, I found myself in therapy and it helped a lot. I still get p.a.'s but I can talk myself down now and actually be productive. I would go see your doctor and describe your symptoms to him, you may or may not have social anxiety disorder. They are the only ones who can diagnose you. Good luck.

Do I ever know about social anxiety...I went to a Psychiatrist. This Dr. never put me on a tranquilizer, which is a logical move in social anxiety treatment. I never wanted tranqs except for sleep. I felt like I would get addicted and be sleepy, etc. I had taken Ativan (Lorazepam) for sleep. So for 10 years, my problems were not well treated. Then a few years back, a female friend responded to my complaint about being nervous and anxious by giving me a Klonopin (clonazepam). It worked so well, so subtly without causing side-effects, that I went to my family Dr asap and told him all about it. I have used Klonopin now for 4 years and would recommend trying this very mild pill.

Hi there, I just laugh about my past 3 years of panic now. I was not able to go anywhere without carrying xanax. Fear of having another attack was the most important subject of my days. When i first found joe barry's web site i started to cry because of my happiness.

I've been extremely shy all my life. I started to get migranes almost weekly and I went to a neurologist who told me Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is causing them. Social Anxiety can be part of OCD, but either way, go to your doctor and get checked out. They usually will treat you with depression medication that will help you.

I myself have had it and it is not fun to live with. I am always afraid to go out in public for fear of a crowd of people. I do better now I am older, but there are a lot of people out there who do not care about anyone. I always worry what other people think of me. Especially what I look like. I know it doesn't matter, but I still worry. I guess it's fear of rejection and fear of the unknown.

Where are all these people with social anxiety when I have a panic attack? We should all get together sometimes and create our own society.
