China is going to surpass the USA first as the next world superpower. I don't see that transition changing things very much.
Now with that said, India becoming a world superpower is going to create several issues... the main one being that they are not a member of the NPT..

Complex and multi-faceted question. My answer will be all too brief.
If India had the economic might of the U.S. it is certainly poised to dominate one of the most important regions of the world as far as natural resources: Central Asia. Although India is slowly industrializing and has remnants of the former British economic and political system, from what I've read they are behind China in economic growth and it would take a long time before India can compete with the US or even Europe.
But let's say India became industrialized and showed a GNP, a standard of living, and a stable political system that encouraged foreign investment. Would it have the will to compete for resources in its own backyard? Does it have the history and relationship with its neighbors that the U.S. has in that region?
But most importantly, would India be willing to build up its military and, in particular, its Navy to become a nation that in defense of its interests, could strike anywhere in the world at a moment's notice?
These are big questions for any nation that dreams or has designs on "superpower" status. You don't get that status by thinking about it or calling yourself a power (much as China is doing now.) Ultimately you have to act and when you do you have to prove to the world that you have an effective reach all over the world.
So, if India's economy could equal that of the United States at some point in the near future, my guess is that they would become competitors with the U.S. in Central Asia, would have to confront the Islamic countries much like the U.S. is now, and would have to deal with the Chinese. If it could first, defeat the U.S. and supplant it in Central Asia (diplomacy, military bases, oil interests) it would then haver to have the will to keep a large military there, protecting its oil and gas interests, would probably meet with a fair amount of hostility by Moslems and would have to keep an eye on China, Japan and North Korea.
Now, the U.S. kinda does all that for the world through its alliances and the U.N. Becoming the main supporter of globalization and free trade in Central Asia, and supplanting the U.S. militarily and diplomatically throughout the Asian continent would probably be India's first step to becoming a global power.

USA will be like UK after the WW2 ended but for India to become a superpower it'll take around 50 years the main problem with India's growth is corruption, illiteracy, unemployment and poverty
if corruption is taken care of all the other problems will quickly disappear and by the there might be a cold war between India and china who knows only time will tell

india is definitely on its way to become a superpower but it is not the only one china is considered too even ready before india. Quote the dean of prestigious school of England "ETON" its dean gave a speech to his students saying that in 10 years 45% of their employers will be Indians or Chinese. Then there will be second third and fourth superpowers and the US will not be alone as it is today. This needs lots of thinking and a grand scheme to reposition things and distribute power.

In the forseeable future India derives nearly all of its economic activities from Western Europe, and therefore would have a vested interest in the west.
