I'm trying to lose 20lbs as soon as possible, so I have this idea to run 2 times a day, in the morning and the evening, for about 30 minutes each time.

Will this help me to lose weight quickly? Has anyone tried this?

Yes, you can run twice a day, but there's a caveat, especially if you are new to running: you aren't giving body enough recovery time. So you are inviting injury, especially if you start doing this more than two times a week.

I recently added two-a-days when I feel like I need to burn a few extra calories or feel extra energetic. But I've been running for the past 10 years and my body (more or less) has adjusted to the rigors of running. I also know what I can tolerate in terms of activity.

Listen to your body. If you start getting sore / injured feeling, definitely back off and go back to running every other day or so. I cannot stress this enough (otherwise you'll be here posting a question about a running injury).

You may find it helpful to run once a day and then do bicycling or swimming (for instance) so that you don't use the same muscles over and over again.

As with any weight loss plan, patience is key. Also be sure your diet is in order too. Too many calories, no matter how much you exercise, will stall your progress.

Good luck.

Many people who take part in marathons whoa re not used to exercise suffer extreme heart pain and some even suffer heart attacks.
The best thing to do would be to start with walking, long walks for about an hour, then after a week or two turn it into speed walking, another two weeks a light jog for 20 minutes then walk for five then jog. Just keep increasing until you're sprinting and doing a fast paced run none stop. :)

Running in it self will not help you lose weight, combine it with a healthy diet and then you will lose weight. I don't mean starve yourself, keep the same amount of food going into your body, but make sure it is the food your body needs.

Yes it would help but you must not expect it to work over night it all takes time.Otherwise why not try cycling first then move om or combine the two.But for it to work you need a healthy diet to go with it.But don't give up no matter how tuff it gets.

no not really running burns 800 calories an hour and since you are doing it twice a day it adds to an hour so you are burning 800 calories . you will probably lose about 1and 1/2 pounds a week .
