When exactly did our society become so concerned with offending the other guy? When did we lose the ability to speak up and say what we believe? I think the pope should apologize on the same day that muslim leaders apologize for calling the rest of the world infidels.

My guess is that the speech was too intellectual for public consumption. People focus on limited content rather than the whole message.
That said, where were the Pope's PR people? Hello? A lot of Westerners don't feel warm and fuzzy towards Islam these days. What exactly was he trying to accomplish with this speech? Did he really think people would listen to, think about, and reflect on the entire speech?
It also seems that Muslims are too easily offended. If they had more self confidence they wouldn't worry about what some old, German religious nutcase thinks.
It all makes you want to go atheist.
Read the entire speech at the link below.

No, the Pope should not apologize. Heaven forbid that there should be a conversation on beliefs. God forbid that people, no matter of what race or religion, should open up their minds and see what other people are thinking.
Too bad the islamic community (or at least the small portion of it that actually gets shown in the news) perpetuates the negative image they have in the west by rioting and threatening everyone whenever somebody mentions something about Islam.

The pope is a lot closer to God than the Muslims.
I don't agree with the Catholic faith but the pope is another story.
If he says it, it is from God.
I would be afraid to say those things about the pope.
That would be a sure way to bring the wrath of God down on them for sure. Now they can say anything they want about Americans and religion and anything else but when they start to disrespect the pope, that is unforgiveable.
He doesn't have to recount anything he says.
They really crossed the line this time.

The Pope is not an elected official like the presidents of various nations or a prime minister. He has no reason to apologize if he believes he is right. no one will vote him out of office for being politically incorrect. He is a religious figure, and is not supposed to be politically correct. Do you have to like what he says or agree with him? No. Can you publicly deplore his declarations and speeches and criticisms? Absolutely. Will he really care if you do? Nope. He is only really responsible to God. He will discharge that responsibility to the best of his understanding and not give a whit for your opinion. Whether anyone approves of him has nothing to do with his office or his duty. Therefore, as his responsibility is not to the world, there is no reason for him to apologize to it. I have thought this out logically, as a neutral party. I am not of any dogmatic or doctrinal religion currently, and have no particular loyalty to any religious figurehead or leader.

Yes Pope should apologize because he said that Islam teaches only violence but he did not know that Islam means PEACE and he also failed to realize what his Bible said "All who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, were to be put to DEATH, whether small or great, man or woman. (NIV Bible, 2 Chronicles 15:13)" "Now kill all the boys [innocent kids]. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. (Numbers 31:17-18)". Now tell me which religion promotes violence.
He also said that Islam was spread through sword. Its famous answer is given by the noted historian De Lacy O’Leary in the book “Islam at the cross road” (Page 8):
“History makes it clear however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping
through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races
is one of the most fantastically absurd myth that historians have ever repeated.”
Tell me which Islamic Sword had gone to Indonesia, which has highest number of Muslims, which sword had gone to East Coast of Africa. Which sword forced Michael Jackson,Cassius Clay,Mike Tyson,Cat Stevens and many other Christion people to accept Islam.Do you know the fastest growing religion in Europe and America is Islam, which sword is focing them. But it is well known that the Christian missionaries are spreading Cristianity by giving money to poor people.

Why should he apologize???
"violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul."
That is the basis of true religious beliefs..... to base a religion off of killing and hatred???
I am not a Pope fan, or a Catholic fan... but I see nothing wrong with what he said

I think he should have just said "violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul." and left it at that without pointing fingers. The catholic church has also caused wars. I think the nuns in the catholic school where I went would have spread their faith by ruler whacks to my fingers if I had voiced opposition.

I deplore religion, so I'm not particularly thrilled with any of them. But, I do think it's pretty amazing that the "spiritual leader' of the Roman Catholic Church, with centuries of bloodshed to its credit, has the nerve to criticize anyone.
Don't hold your breath waiting for an apology, though. It took centuries for them to apologize for persecuting Galileo, and he was one of their own.
