Whoever told all these actors and actresses that their opinions on the world were meaningful and that the public wanted to hear them??? I understand if the subject is acting; that would make sense. But whoever thought that sean penn, susan sarandon, george clooney, or any of them have valuable thoughts on politics and foreign policy? Sure, they can educate themselves like any of us can but do any of them have a formal degree in these subjects they spout? Maybe a Masters in Political Science w/ some years worth of experience in the field? I mean I would consider THAT person's pov as speaking from a base of knowledge at least. So why do they continue to spew their nonsense and why do we, the public, encourage it by watching them do it???

narcissistic actors love to hear themselves talk . . .it makes them feel they are something more than just a pretty face. Which face it they're not. They get paid good money to be scene and memorize lines, let's keep it that way.

Just as you chose to use Yahoo! Answers as a forum to convey your opinions/views to the masses, so does the actor/actress use print and film to convey theirs.
It seems that you pose this question because the actors you speak of have an opposing view to yours. If they were conveying the same ideals as yourself in a public forum I don't think you would have any objections.
Please do not forget we still live in America where we are all entitled to our opinions whether we are under-educated, an academic, blue collar, white collar or what ever label is attached.
A scholar can still spew nonsense just as an under educated person can still have a wealth of common sense.

What do actors think their opinions have any value at all on subjects other than acting?
because most people get interested in them and their thoughts after people see one of their works. They want to know what an artist thinks of the world and their ideas on various subjects. Artists have creative minds that can see things in a unique perspective.

I don't see any reason that an actor's opinion should count any less than yours. The fact is some of these people take a stance in order to shed light on an issue that has been ignored. Clooney's stance on Darfur is a perfect example. Kind of hard to balame him for trying to save lives that most of the world doesn't care about.

the reason they speak out is because they realize the influence they can have and they are using it for good. bono is our generations john lennon. he is speaking out and trying to do things that actually make a difference. and he is just one example. in the 1960's, musicians and the youth of america changed american beliefs on what is right and wrong. they spoke out and protested against a war that was wrong. be nice if the youth of this country would do the same. i applaude the celebrities that use their popularity to speak out! they should be! they have every right to! it's called the first amendment!!!

Living in a pretend world is what makes actors able to do their jobs so well. When they let their pretend worlds leak out into public statements in the real world...
It is as stupid and dangerous as George Clooney trying to perform a real surgical procedure.

We elected a repuglican actor once and how did that work out. Oh I forgot him being a repuke makes it ok to express his opinion and run for office... This is a free county even though Bush is taking many away and anybody is allowed to voice their opinion on anything and to shut off any segment of society is just plain wrong. Do you remember right and wrong or are you a repuglican.

As for myself I do not listen to them or watch them on TV. So I do not encourage them at all. By the way that is a good question.

Because people read their gossip, watch their movies, dress like them, act like them, and fawn over them. Ask People magazine readers.

you just gave them free advertising.
good one! i'm sure that'll learn 'em. i for one do admire sean for going to new orleans in his boat. that was pretty hardcore, even if it wasn't productive. i am not going to concern myself with people who mean well... have you considered another hobby?
