Watering Plants With Beer

2016-11-02 00:53:11 · answer #2 · answered by ikeda 4 · 0 0

I have been adding beer to my fertilizer for years. I learned the formula from Jerry Baker, the master of tricks and tonics for the garden. I mix one can of cheap beer, with one can of coke, and some fish emulsion, some 20/20/20 fertilizer, some liquid sea kelp, a dash of iron, and a dash of B-1. If I mix this with the dirty water from my fish aquarium, it is plant dynamite. The plants love the beer. When I was a bartender, I would pour left over tap beer on a Schefflera in a large container. The plant was very healthy because of it, but the smell made me stop doing it.

Don't think beer for watering plants is a good idea, as beer attracts slugs.

After in-depth research, Jeff Gillman, Ph. D., associate professor, Dept. of Horticultural Science, University of Minnesota, concludes: "beer is better consumed than applied to your garden." [see source for article]. But beer is prised for it's slug-o-cidal effect: its a good bait to lure slugs (which may negatively affect plant growth in some gardens).

But seems like a waste of a good beer...however, I can think of some watered down US light beers that could serve as a decent irrigation substitute in a pinch.

Yes you can, do it often and they will grow very quickly.
Also talk to the plants it helps.
After a couple of weeks stop feeding them the beer.
Give them some water, at this point they normally ask if there's any chance of a lager and a joint!

Don't think so but you can water them with black tea or black coffee. I'd stick to water and plant food just to be on the safe side.
