That's pretty much it. I think also there is a condescending paternalism involved - "liberals" feel they know what's best for others, and take it on themselves to speak for other people, whether those people want them speaking for them or not. But I think you're right, the bottom line is votes, and ultimately power.

Racism is a state of mind. If you keep celebrating that people are less and give them special dispensations to prove they are less, then they will begin to believe they are less. We will never totally erase racism from any culture, but we sure as hell can treat people equally. They deserve no more or no less than that.

demonrats use race to divide people and create a perceived need for them in order to get more votes. in reality the demonrats opposed against every single piece of legislation that benefited blacks including the 13, 14th 16th and 17th amendments. demonrats opposed desegregation and freeing the slaves.
