The funniest thing is that whomever's responsible, conservatives or not, thinks that they're actually protecting the U.S.! No, wait... the funniest thing is that there are people that believe they are safer because of that! At best, they're infuriating the terrorists that haven't been captured (and the ones that never will be) and giving them even more reasons for hatred and revenge.
I don't think americans should care about their image, but I do think that all people should care about being good and responsible and using their brains more than their guns and whatever torture devices. Many americans fail to do that, and as for that image, as a person living outside the U.S. I can tell you it's not looking good. The U.S. government's actions are not helping the U.S. at all. If those of you that are american want proof (others probably don't need it), just look at what's going on inside your own country and the people's minds. You're so focused on external threats you don't even see the internal ones. You've basically been hit by weapons of mass distraction launched by your own government.

I wouldn't say that conservatives "support" torture. It's just that conservatives believe (and I agree, in this case) that extreme circumstances warrant extreme actions.
I wouldn't want to be the one doing the torturing, or the one who authorized it, but I understand that sometimes it is a necessary evil.
I just weigh the discomfort of a few against the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent people. If torturing the few saves thousands of lives, I believe the ends do justify the means.
Sometimes, one can't just "play nice" with terrorists. These are NOT normal criminals. These people are so full of hate and what they perceive as righteous vengeance, that they will go to ANY lengths to execute their deviant plans. If shooting them in the leg is what it takes to find out what they have planned, and when, and where, so be it.
I don't like it...but sometimes...one has no choice. I hate that we live in a world where such things have to occur.

An Islamic terrorist was captured recently in Saudi Arabia and "questioned" by the Saudis.
He gave up all the names of a cell in England that was immediately arrested - shortly after planning and just prior to implementing their plan to blow up two commercial jets over the Atlantic Ocean.
If the United States had captured this suspect, would we have gotten this information that ultimately saved hundreds of innocent lives?
How much human rights priority should we give a terrorist who would cut your head off - and the rest of your family's - just to make another video?
Weighing my concern over what the rest of the world might think of our image compared to saving innocent men, women and children from these murdering Islamic dirt bags - the rest of the world can just stay rapped in their security blanket of apathy and ignorance.
The last time France needed more evidence and proof of an immanent danger - it came marching into Paris waving a swastika flag!

Hmmm...I'm not a conservative...but I've been to the cells where saddams Baathe party tortured disidents and innocent people that spoke in favor of deomocracy and change...They were animals. They tortured for the pleasure it brought them to hurt people they hated.
You think Abu Graib was a bad site...stupid girl with a cigarette in her mouth...a hooded detainee...
thats childs play compared to what Iraqis dish out to their own citizens...
People like you wouldn't last 3 minutes in an Iraqi prison.
The conservatives support "interrogation"...and there is a huge difference.
You survive US interrogation without mental illness.
Watch your wife and daughters get rapped in front of you before your Iraqi detainees start cutting on you simply because you didn't vote for Saddam...and you'll live the difference.
The only thing that washes Americas image down the drain is ignorant people like you and the US media.

We aren't taking revenge, we are trying to prevent another incident like 9/11 from ever happening again. I am conservative and I love my country. I support doing what is necessary to break these horrific barbarians that would do anything to kill Americans and get them to reveal their information. If locking them in a cold room with loud music works then so be it.

There is nothing wrong with torture. There is nothing wrong with guns. There is nothing wrong with nuclear weapons.
Does this mean you use them as a first option, or all the time? No.
These are all just tools. There is a time and a place for all of them. Tools are not good or evil. The people that use the tools are good or evil and use the tools toward their purposes.
Here's an idea. Let's get rid of bad people, instead of the tools they use.

I've got an easy fix here... how about we stop taking prisoners, that way no secret prisons, no allegations of torture, no worry about them getting public hearings v. tribunals.. would be nice and easy that way the libs would be happy and my tax bucks wouldn't be going to giving the prisoners their special wants for food, clothing, and all other items they get at club gitmo.
So since we wouldn;t be taking prisoners anymore.. we can give them to other friendly countries.. hell lets let Iraq use thier penial system *smirk* to get trials by their laws and their punishments.. maybe then ppl will understand the differences between their and our prisons

If they would condemn torture they would in turn condemn their idol Bush.
There is one curious thing about the neocons and that is that they do not seem to have any motivation to do something before they are not told to do it by their superiors. It is the old herd instinct that lead Germany into the dark period of the Nazis. At that time they also followed orders, and the neocons seem to go down the same path.
So in order to condemn torture they would have to think out of their Bush appointed realm and see the larger picture.

So, you're more worried about our global image than our safety?
I don't care what the rest of the world thinks as long as I can go about my daily life without fear of being blown up by some psycho Islamic terrorist.
Somewhere in high school, I stopped caring what everyone else thought about me, and started living my life for me and doing what I thought was right. I guess some people never grow up to that point.
