Well, we're not the most ignorant. We have a huge amount of information freely accessible to anyone and everyone, which means we have the ability (if not the widespread desire) to be well informed on a wider range of subjects. We have a great deal of wealth, which means we have the money to spend on the latest information technology.
Having said that, having the luxury of a large country and the financial ability to indulge many of our personal whims has also meant we average citizens haven't had to pay attention to what is occurring in much of the rest of the world. That is currently biting us in the butt. The furor over the acts of our current government is the whole country suddenly waking up to the fact that we've been revelling in our wealth too long, haven't been paying enough attention, and that our leaders are exploiting that fact.
You're right, we have been exploiting third world countries. And if you look at the populace of the US as representative of any large group of people, some people don't give a damn, some care a great deal, and some are apathetic. But, we're all aware, now, that some of our wealth has come at a steep price for other people. Grassroots activism to change the way we do business with poor countries has begun. Don't expect huge changes right away (we have to get rid of our current administration first), but don't think it won't change.
We Americans have been asleep at the wheel, so to speak. But we are the descendants of the people who fought WWI and II; some of them still live among us. I believe that the overall honor, integrity, and willingness to sacrifice of those generations still survives in American culture; a culture which, for all that it is now so widely despised in the world, is also widely emulated.
I travel, you see. Not as widely as I'd like, but I do know this. There isn't a country yet that I've visited that hasn't adopted some aspects of American culture. We may be less than 400 years old as a country, but our contributions to the world have been enormous. We're just having a bad decade right now.
Your anger is justified. We've been wasting the gifts of our prosperity for too long, and ignoring the consequences. We have great power, and have been shirking the responsibilites that come with it. I don't blame anyone watching the present turmoil for being afraid of a meltdown of the USA; I am myself. But we're not stupid. I believe we'll pull our collective heads out of the sand, get our government straightened out, and once again live up to the standards set by our ancestors.

I'd say you're being awfully harsh. I'll agree, we're pretty insulated, for the most part--the only times we've come out of our shells to interact with the entire world, we've been at war, so it's pretty natural for us to try and escape once we're done.
As to culture, it's not our fault that we're as young as we are. And we have inherited our culture as a mish-mash of those who settled here, so in fact we are multicultural. I'd hate to tell an African-American, an Irish American, an Italian-American or any other that their original heritage doesn't count--they didn't start with a completely blank slate when their feet hit North American soil.
Just because our government chooses to go to war doesn't mean we all agree with it. And as to being parasites, I like to think it's a symbiotic relationship with most third world countries. Yes we buy their merchandise, but we pay, which encourages industry for them. We also give more money to third world countries than any other nation. I wouldn't call that being parasitic.

It's ridiculous to say that Europe has been somehow dependent on USA. Europe is the reason, for better or for worse, the nation of USA exists.
As for "bailing us out in WW2", well, most of Europe fell under a dictatorship despite USAs best efforts.
Whether or not the people living in USA are more or less ignorant than the Europeans, I can only state that there are disadvantages of living in such a large country, that eat away the proper perspective of the world. Also, while the public education in USA is no doubt good, it is still way below the standards of Finland, that dominates the top 2 positions along with Japan.

You wonder why americans know everything well... theres not a single person in the world in ANY culture that knows everything and Everybody has people in there cultures that are ignorant ... but there are some things that make this country .. that is the american people love to learn .. theyve done more with the knowledge of other cultures mistakes and breakthroughs and used them successfully in there everyday lives. ... america does not need blood from other 3rd world countries ... we choose to for the simple fact that it makes our lives easier in the long run ... but ... for how many years did america go without things from the 3rd world countries ... oh and let me ask you another thing what 3rd world country are you talking about ... would that be the countries that produce the most oil ... yeah well some countries are blessed with rich oil reserves and ..some arent .. but have you been to most of these countries probably not ... have you seen there style of living probably not ... these people do not know how to provide a structured government that could make that country and its people flourish .. for example if america had those kinds of oil reserves we would be by far some of the richest people in the world. .. we make a good profit here in america .( we as in the people of the united states) and we make our profits by being smart not ignorant to the fact that other countries have stuff that we want if we were ignorant than we probably would not but things from other countries .. and if we were ignorant ... we wouldnt be the most powerful country in the world.... the american people are the farthest from being the most ignorant or the biggest ignorants in the world and is sustainable through the abundant facts of our economy and our technology and our military might and how we as an american people can adapt to any situation we overcome and out play most any country there is in some way or another.... ignorance ... the state of being uneducated .... hmmm thats one thing that the united states is very good at .. the education system in america is some of the best in the world why do we have people come here to study from all around the world at our universities ... ignorance the state of being unaware... i think the american people do to our political state of minds ... are aware of whats going on around us for the simple fact that we like to be in control and have things go our way ... thats why we stay aware of our surroundings and choose people who will support our opinions in whatever subject matter that there intersted in .... ignorance the state of being uninformed ... lets see i hate to say it but our media in america the news corporations are the best there are .. they keep the americans informed on everything going on in the country from local news to national ... our news groups surpase any other countries futile attempts to come close to what america has done or will do in the future for the media business .... so ignorance has been ruled out ... spill some more of your ignorance.... love ot here it ....

Your generalization is false. Not ALL Americans are ignorant. I agree, there are many, but you can find them in any and all countries. People like to associate the people of this country with our government policies. Tell us where you are from, I'm sure we can come up with great stats to show your country's faults. Not fair to generalize.
