I never pressed charges at the time because of the mental abuse i had suffered and the threats to abduct our 4 year old daughter, who by the way was sat on my knee during one of the assults where he broke my nose and cheekbone and was covered in my blood... she is now 18 and wants me to get some form of justice but cant get any information on if i can or how to go about it.

Are you in the UK or USA.

In the UK, I read an article about a man who was in his 40's.
He wanted to press charges against his step mother who abused him when he was young (i think from about 3 to 10 years old)

They managed to find the step mother, she was charged and made to appear in court, and was sentanced to Jail ( I cant remember how much she got in years)

It is worth seeking proper advice, especially if your daughters remember the events. As she will be able to give statements.

It might be worth getting your daughter to see a councilor so they can appear in court as another witness, to back up your case against your ex.

I think you should prusue this as they are many women who suffer abuse, and although you are out off it, many are nt and dont ever manage to get out off it.

He needs to be brought to Justice, and people around him need to know what he is capable off.

Contact your family protection unit at your local station....is there any medical evidence? ...did you get the injuries noted on your medical notes etc? If you did make a formal complaint....the obvious question everyone will ask is why now? why not last year? or five years ago? What do you hope to gain by making a complaint now?

You could have had some form of financial compensation from the Criminal Injuries Board...but unfortunately you can't now as it would be out of the timing criteria.

If you don't want to contact your local Family Protection Unit...then phone Women's Aid...they can advice you too.

So sorry to hear this information, but u need to go to either a court house or an actual attorney and find out how the statute of limitations are on these types of charges in your state.

Im not sure I understand the question but if you are asking if you can file a criminal complaint for an assault that happened 14 years ago, I dont think so. Probably the statute of limitations have expired. cant be certain and depends on what state you live in.

Doubtful. Statute of Limitations may apply. Why now anyhow? What's done is done. Not that is was right in the first place, but I would try to convince your daughter to move on and never repeat what she has seen from her childhood. Living well is the best revenge.

Highly doubtful the statute of limitations, in NY state anyway, on a Felony like those asaults would be is 7 years! I believe it's the same, or close, wherever you is! I can't be held responsible for stuff I done in the days!

I would contact a lawyer and see what the statute of limitations is, unfortunately because it has been so long you might not be able to press charges now.

I believe the statute of limitations is 7 years - except for murder.

Call you local prosecutor's office . Talk to someone there. They will have your answers.
