Iran has every right to enrich uranium for energy purposes because it is a member of the N-NPT (Nuclear non-perliferation Treaty). This treaty guarantees this right as long as they comply with inspector demands.
Ironically, Bush told India, who has refused to sign the N-NPT, they could enrich uranium. This creates a very complicated dilema.
Additionally, if you examine Iran's history, Iran has no history of aggression but rather of defense. Iran has also held to all regulations of the NPT to include full access to all uranium enrichment sites to all U.N. inspectors.
There is no evidence to support restricting Iran's right to enrich uranium in order to obtain nuclear energy. Also, keep in mind, Israel has nuclear weapons.

Iran has historically been a very powerful nation in that area of the world. It's power waned with the domination of the British Empire for the past 200 years. Iran was known as Persia and Parthia; the only empire that seriously challenged the power of both the Roman and Greek empires. In the post colonial period the United States has attempted to keep the fabric of colonialism in place since the end of WWII. By having Iran develop a nuclear power program it would attempt to reassert its natural dominance in the region by holding the one trump card the US and the West cannot overcome; the pathway to a nuclear arsenal. If you've noticed over the past 50 years, the US only attacks weak countries that can't defend themselves (Iraq, Haiti, Panama, Grenada, Bosnia, Somalia and so on..); Iran with nukes would not meet that profile. With a dominate Iran on the rise and the Shanghai Security Grid already in place between Russia, China, India and soon to be Iran; the West would effectively be removed from the Middle East and access to the greatest material prize in history, oil.

They can...the problem is that much of the world doesn't trust what they'd do with nuclear technology. This is a country where its leader has said he wants to blow the USA and Isreal off the map!
Plus the stereotype that the Muslim culture is one where they count innocents as military targets...making a nuclear bomb the perfect weapon. With a nuke, you can destroy military targets AND civilian targets in a single blast.
The world is wary of ANYONE having a nuclear program (I think there are less than a dozen countries right now w/ a nuclear program), because a nuclear bomb cannot hit a single, specific target. You can't nuke just a bunker or a base...you destroy the entire city!

They can but there is a very fine line between nuclear research for power and research on weapons. The fact they have power means they understand how to control nuclear fission. All they would need to do to produce a weapon is control the fission in a warhead and attach it to a missile. The world knows they need power, they just want to be sure that is all they want.

Because the government of Israel are crying like little babies. They want to be the only country in the Middle East with advanced nuclear capabilities. Like a bully who picks on kids half his size. Same reason we went in to Iraq, for Israel's sake.

They have been offered nuclear power. They said no, we want to have all the capabilities to make nuclear weapons, but we are just going to use it for power.

Because it's a country run by people with a 10th century mentality. People who would have no qualms about using that power to further their own cause with no regard for what is good and decent and right. These people have no use or respect for those of us in the west, and would happily kill us and have no remorse whatsoever.

Because they will try to blow up Israel if they get it. Although Israel won't let it get that far. They will blow Iran off the map before that happens. After what happened with Lebanon I think they will do it sooner than later.

It can so long as it doesn't put it in a bomb and nuke us or Israel or some other place. It's the same technology and they have a bit of a trust problem. Ah...there's the rub!
