What kind of case? Civil litigation for damages for the assault? Or do you mean for the assault to be used as grounds for the divorce? If divorce, then there is no time limit in UK law at least - it would form part of the Particulars in an Unreasonable Behaviour petition and you would need to give an approximate date, e.g. "July 2003" or "approximately three weeks after the wedding" etc. If it were a civil litigation matter, then in UK law I believe you would stand to gain little as you can only claim damages for losses suffered as a result of the assault, so it would really depend on the severity of your injuries and e.g. whether you had to take time off work etc.

Best to consult a lawyer with specific details. In the case of divorce, if this assault was some time ago but you are still unhappy there are bound to be good reasons for that and you would no doubt not have to rely on citing the assault anyway.

for civil litigation there is a statute of limitations. for criminal acts there is no such thing. however the difficulty may lie in proving the crime with the passage of time.
many old cases have been opened and solved using dna profiling where evidence such as blood or semen samples have been preserved for 20 or 30 years.

Depends on what kind of assualt and the jurisdiction. Was a complaint filed at the time of the assault? If we're talking rape, some places have no statute of limitations.
