We are visiting for our granddaughter's christening. We had to travel quite a distance for the event and are not well to do. what is considered a nice gift or is the fact that we got here gift enough. We have brought along little gifts for the baby but are concerned that we are expected to give a "big" gift

How sweet of you. What a blessing! You are the gift really! Yet many won't feel that way (your right). This is some of the items we have done for weddings, graduations and other events.

NOW-
A lovely white bear is nice, for the baby to hold as he/she grows with a "christian" them on it. A precious moments collectable item is a keep sake. A cross for the child to wear or a pin for the label. A throw blanket from "Things Remembered" with the baby's name "Christian Name" and Church and date on it.

Being Catholic we have tons of events that are "special"
My given name is Denise, my Confirmation Name was:
Agatha
St Helen's Church
March, 12 1980
It was in easter colors and cherished it for 26 years... Go figure.
I lost my Aunt who gave it to me, in 1984. I covers me with love.
It came with me during hurrincane evacuations.... so you know.

Later~ After the fanfare is all over- drop this in the mail!
You are very important. A nice picture of you holding the baby with your digiital or disposible, get a 5x7print and put it on a "things remembered frame with the event and date and maill it back to them so that it can be displayed for the baby to see is important. Nana & Papa "Last name" love you.

That will be the most treasured gift and you will know that it was for them and the child and not for the "SHOW me" relatives.

Best wishes for a blessed grandchild, children and yourselves.

Traveling to the christening is gift enough. I'm sure your family will appreciate you just being there.

My daughter received a bible & a necklace with a cross at her christening, it was from the Godparents.

No one else bought gifts, I didn't expect any. I just wanted them there.

trojan condoms, flask, vodka, etc. Just depends on what the baby likes. My uncle Bubba got my baby a 1 yr subscription to P boy.

Each time my mom has a new grandbaby, she gives a baby's first bible to them, it is adorable, and is a treasured keepsake for the child as well.
