LoL

I see you hit a nerve with Dueña_de_los_Corazones...

His question was far from racist, you just harbor a negative racist agenda towards those who don't like to be discriminated against...or you just hate white people....

Either way..you show your true colors well

Edit - For the record;

grin·go (grngg)
n. pl. grin·gos Offensive Slang
Used as a disparaging term for a foreigner in Latin America, especially an American or English person.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Spanish, foreign, foreign language, gibberish, probably alteration of griego, Greek, from Latin Graecus; see Greek.]
Word History: In Latin America the word gringo is an offensive term for a foreigner, particularly an American or English person. But the word existed in Spanish before this particular sense came into being. In fact, gringo may be an alteration of the word griego, the Spanish development of Latin Graecus, "Greek." Griego first meant "Greek, Grecian," as an adjective and "Greek, Greek language," as a noun. The saying "It's Greek to me" exists in Spanish, as it does in English, and helps us understand why griego came to mean "unintelligible language" and perhaps, by further extension of this idea, "stranger, that is, one who speaks a foreign language." The altered form gringo lost touch with Greek but has the senses "unintelligible language," "foreigner, especially an English person," and in Latin America, "North American or Britisher." Its first recorded English use (1849) is in John Woodhouse Audubon's Western Journal: "We were hooted and shouted at as we passed through, and called 'Gringoes.'"

I love how a lot of answeres to this question say it isnt a slur, yet that is the first thing it is defined as....

Racial slurs don't bother me ,they are used in place of a decent vocabulary for people to distract from the real issues. You can call me gringo or whitey or honky,it has no effect on me.They are just words and I will not empower a word to hurt me.If I don't empower the racists words they are of no consequence. And once they find out their words have no effect they will stop saying them.
But even if they don't its your reaction to the words that gets them off .So why give them any pleasure by acting angry or hurt. And if they go too far and say things about my family,or my dog, well I can take care of that right then and there .

Who are you and what have you done with the real Alberto?

Good question
But what do I know I am a white male
Everyone is free to insult me. If I am not a redneck I am a bigot or a racist.
Really all I am is ME

Q-burt
I love your answer I think you proved that gringo is a racist term and now when I hear it I will get my feelings hurt and look for someone to blame. LOL

If you hadn't noticed everyone's getting mad. He isn't being racist at all. Gosh, I swear ppl on here have issues. So defensive, there fore taking a lot of questions or responses the wrong way.

When I get called a nip I giggle. [I'm Oriental]Only because I call everyone else NIP ... and when I say nip I mean 'dork' ... and usually I'll call someone a nip when they're anything other than one. Oh well, I think it's some sort of shame, maybe a confidence issue. [personal]

first of all, if gringo is a slur why would you want to say it. there are so many other words in the english language that you can use to express your friendship. Its just like this, you may be able to call your mom a ***** if she makes you mad but nobody else better call her that.

Gringo isn't a racial slur, is it? I thought it meant something like "friend" in spanish. OMG. I am dumb. --

Dude, you are an idiot. The reason why they get upset is because most idiot Americans see a Latino, and call the Mexican. Did you know that there is a pretty good chance that if you see someone who speaks Spanish and has Brown skin, they might be from a country besides Mexico (ie Venezuela, Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador, El Salvador, etc.) Gringo means white person. If you think being called white is a racial slur, you have no clue what a real racial slur is. Educate yourself, think outside the box. Somos pocos pero locos.

It's acceptable in parts of the country. Try the Southwest, especially Texas. Nobody minds. They refer to themselves as gringos in Texas.
