Just that either sit down with him or write him a letter. Tell him the truth and then stay away from him. Don't call or e-mail. Give him time to get over the hurt. Maybe he feels the same way and it's time for both of you to move on. Good Luck to both parties.

you will have to be honest and let him know that you no longer want to be with him, that you would prefer to be friends. That things aren't working out and you think that its best to stop seeing each other before it gets stressful and ugly. Good luck

then be honest and dont lie to him speaking from experience. it will be much easier to leave him now than in the furture when he is more attached and than might risk the chance of becoming a unwanted relationship
