I believe his willingness to stand up to authority is what got him elected. I find that Minnesotans have a history of doing that. This could really be sending a message as to what changes are in the future of this countries elections ahead.

Oops, ok so he only won his parties primary. But still, can the question of history in the making still be addressed? Especially if he wins the election?

Obie Sium is a solid American. Before you condemn a person strictly because of his name or religious back ground you should get to know them first. If you knew this individual and had talked with him, you would find that his heart is in to where he wants to help people and try to make changes in the government that are taking our country into bankruptcy. He ran in the primary against a person who has warrants against him and has lived in Italy for the past 20 years and never said a bad word against that person during his election and won the election in the primary. I worked with Obie in the MN Dept. of Natural Resources for years, had coffee or took breaks with him many times and never heard him mention one time any derogatory comments against his country which is the USA. He immigrated to the United States about 33 years ago from East Africa, and I cannot remember him even mentioning the country he came from even one time. I would vote for him without reservations. He is a solid American.
As far a the comment that MN does a lot of crazy s***, I have to agree with that individual but add also that so has every other state done the same thing. I happened to be one Minnesotan who doesn't vote on party lines but for the individual running for office who is going to best work for the people and not their self-interests. I would trust Obie Sium to do exactly that. I personally think he would make an excellent Congressman.

Actually his district (dist. #5) is one of the most solidly democrat districts. His supporters and voters are from a wide variety of backgrounds in that area. So really this district is the most opportune for someone of a different background (different as in not white and/or christian) to come from. I'm a white christian Minnesotan and I think its a good thing he's gotten past the primary.
His main opponent is using dirty tactics to dig up any irrelevant information to bash him. His jewish opponent says that he marched in the million man march back in 1995 (correctly me if I'm wrong in the year) and that Farakhan, (bad spelling sorry) the leader of the M.M.March said some remarks against the jewish people. So he's digging this up trying to make him look bad.
*sigh* politics.
Oh and thanks to the last poster who bashed Minnesotans. Small minded people suck.

He only won his parties primary, he'll get to represent them in the General Election in November, that is when you'll find out if he has won the seat or not.

It is so sad that you are so WRONG.

In order for him to have been VOTED IN, he would have to have been ELECTED.

Unfortunately, ELECTIONS aren't until NOVEMBER.
