i was just wondering if anyone out there has tried the new birth control pill, seasonale? i'm trying to watch my weight and i was wondering what the side effects are of this.. and i've asked a doctor and he said just the normal ones but wouldn't tell me what...
i am very sensitive to side effects of any medicine so i wanted to try this new one, but wanted some feedback on it.
i've tried every single other form of bc.. and they all have way too many side effects for me to handle like nauseas ALL the time.. and headachy and pregnant like or flu like for those who dont have kids..
please let me know..

I was on seasonale for 5 months. I started taking it because I have had other chronic health problems, and the added monthly pain made it all worse. My doc said I should try seasonale.
She told me it wouldnt cause weight gain because of a difference with the hormones it was made with. I gained 15 pounds.
I had alot of cramping, but because I have also had kidney problems, I thought it may have something to do with that. At first the seasonale seemed to work great for me. Besides cramping I had no bleeding, no other symptoms.
Then 4 months in, the bleeding started, and didnt stop for an entire month until I got fed up and stopped taking the pill. I bled for two weeks after I quit. I was grumpy, tired, my face broke out, I had gained weight, and I was totally confused because my doc said none of this would happen. So i did a little research and found this forum:
http://www.aphroditewomenshealth.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=000144;p=0
In case the link doesnt work, its www.aphroditewomenshealth.com and i found some forums where other women posted their experience with seasonale. I hope it helps in your decision.
Good luck!

I'm also very sensitive to hormones. After my daughter was born I got a copper IUD. I've had it for eight and a years and it's great. You don't even know they're there and they're very safe, not like the old ones. Very effective, "set it and forget it". There is a new IUD on the market now; it has hormones. They say the hormonal amount is so minor it stays in the uterus and doesn't mess with your body like other hormonal methods but women I know who've tried it say they had side effects similar to the pill. The copper T does not have hormones and I've had absolutely no side effects.
I've never tried the new birth control pill because I gave up on pills years ago, just thought I'd give you my experience for an alternative.
Added: I have anxiety and depression as well (I have bipolar disorder) and my hormones reak havoc with my moods. Bipolar + hormones = bad news. :(

You have the standard birth control side effects. However, due to the extended periods of time between periods, you might have higher chance of break through bleeding and yeast infections.
In general, the newer birth control pills have less hormones than the older birth control pills.
Have you tried Ortho-Evra, the skin patch. It uses the smallest hormone dose of any kind of delivery device.

If you try the pill do NOT smoke they are not kidding about having a stroke. I did it on Dec last year and it was from the pill. If you don't want kids at all get your tubes tied is the only way to have it be permanent. There are no perfect ones. Maybe menopause but that is a whole other kettle of fish.

I have not tried this pill but with your other medications & your concerns I would suggest you call a drug store & ask to speak with a pharmassist. This is totally free & any good pharmassit will take the time to address your concerns & answer your questions. -- A Dr goes to school to treat illness,, a Pharmassist goes to learn about drugs & how they relate to the human body.

The best way to get an answer to your questions is to talk to your doctor about this. He or She will know more about side effects and possible drug interactions than the majority of the people here.

You do know saying girls only is just asking guys to check this and butt in. That said I have had a number of friends that have tried it. A few swear by it but most have complained that their weight went way up on it. Most all hormone BCs are going to have some effect on your metabolism. I would recommend looking at IUDs or Diaphragms as an alternative.

any type of birth control has about the same side effacts, and as far as the nuvaring, it sucks, if you go to the bathroom or have sex you half to worry about it falling out, so your smart not wanting to try it,but bc has side effects, i gained weight on some bc, but just exercise and try to keep fit, and it will help out to.....

I don't know why some woman would take seasonale. Woman where meant to bleed every month, so why tamper with your body? Let nature take its course.
