A local militia that formed in New England when the Government was incompetent to protect the country from the British. They were civilians that would "be ready in a minute" if the redcoats came. Self reliance when the government fails is a very American concept. The right to bear arms. I will find a link for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Minutemen

During the early days of the American Revolution, they were militia who faught against the English. They were called Minute Men because of the idea that they could be ready to fight in a minute or less.

The modern minutemen, who are essentially an unofficial and civilian-run organization to enforce the US-Mexico border, take their name from the Revolutionary group.

The Minute Men were defenders of freedom in America during the Revolutionary War. Look it up on line.

Minute Men today are citizens putting their bodies at all the borders in the U.S. because this administration has refused to protect its citizenry and its sovereingty. U.S. is ONLY country to fail to secure its borders. Think conspiracy. The MM and talk radio has turned the government types upside down and the latest word is, border is being secured, no amnesty, but a guest worker program of some kind next year.

Minute Men are also men who have sex and go to orgasm in a minute or less.

Anything else?

Whey were an elite group of men that were trained for battle. They were called minute men because they were always the first to be ready. The would confront the enemy and hold them while the reinforcements got ready.

And no, it had nothing to do with the Mexicans coming across the border... it was during the American revolution which had nothing to do with the Mexicans.

From the American Revolution. They were "elite" civilian troops that would be ready to fight in minutes as the first line of defense.

The new minutemen named themselves after the Revolutionary War heroes because they view themselves as the civilian first line of defense against the invaders pouring in across the Mexican border

They slept in their clothes with their loaded guns, powder and shot at their sides and were supposed to muster to the town commons on a minute's notice, if the British came. (Revolution.)

We have a soft spot for vigilantes as long as they respect our laws. We call it 'self-reliance'.
