Oh yes, it's normal. The pain up the bum symptoms are what I fondly refer to as "sitting on a broomstick" syndrome, cos that's what it feels exactly like!
I think it's just part of the muscle contractions and really is nothing to worry about. I take paracetomol regularly for the first couple of days of my period when the pains are at their worst and this usually helps.
Hope this helps?

Honey I have that same problem. With mine it is right below the panty line and it is like a sharp twisting pain and it only lasts a few seconds. I would say that it's normal because it doesn't occur all the time, but if you are concerned I suggest seeing your doctor.

I can tell you from personal experience that this cramping is not fun!! My mom tells me that she had the same cramping when she was my age and it didn't go away until she had her first kid. I went to the doctor to talk about the issue, and he prescribed some medication, but I didn't feel right on it so I stopped taking it.
I have had this cramping for 10 years now, and I found that my best friend was my heat pad, and IB profen... Lay off the caffine (Tea, coffee, and pop) and no chocolate a week before your period.

i have the same exact thing hun, it is completely normal and i have been to see my doctor about it. they say it is normal and that i have nothing to worry about. they recomended trying to walk alot when i have these pains because exercise lessens them. it really does work. if it is horrible (sometimes mine are) i was perscribed a pain killer which is pretty much just motrin, but stronger. just be careful when taking motrin or tylenol bc it can thin the blood. i suggest taking some midol. midol works wonders

Sounds like cramping, try a hot water bottle or some over the counter remedies specifically for period pain.

Actually it can be normal, its a problem that's been in my family for three generations. It affects all different people different ways but if I were you I'd still mention it to your doc. There are certain painkillers that are especially good for during your period besides the normal ones, again ask you doc. both my Mum and I were prescriped Mefamanic (sp?) acid but again ask your doc.

I sometimes get it. It's just severe cramps. Take some strong painkillers, and I mean strong! 600mg Ibuprofen.
