You are a person after my own heart! I know it seems like a petty subject but it's been really getting to me lately. It seems like all of a sudden there's been a huge increase in these blo**dy monstrosities! Me and my husband were counting the other day and approximately every fourth car going past was a 4x4. Why do people like these cars? I would walk to school if I could but I have to make two trips to two different schools within 10 minutes and would love to walk to get away from these horrid "tanks". Another thing that annoys me is that you can't see around them or in front of them and I think they are dangerous. I'm not jealous because they scream "look at me, I keep up with The Jones' " and it's very sad. Most of the people who drive them only have one or two children and they basically have them to show off how (non) important they are. It's a status thing and it's pathetic. Get them off our roads! Sorry rant over!

Why do people gripe about 4x4s so much?
I have a medium 4x4, a Toyota RAV-4. I need it as I live in the Highlands of Scotland and we get quite a bit of snow here in the winter. Being the Highlands it is also rather hilly. I live in a remote area and cannot afford to be stranded by a cissy car.
I get 47 mpg so that squashes any argument about being gas guzzlers. I had an Avensis once and that did less miles to the gallon than the RAV-4.
I am short and appreciate the higher driving position as I can see better.
The road tax is the same as a car, my insurance was only £157 this year, fully comp., as I have 21 years no-claim bonus.
A 4x4 is more rugged and capable of towing anything should I ever need to.
It will take the dog, shopping, people - all at once. I don't have any kids, so don't blame me about the school run.
Please stop moaning about them. They are great and I wouldn't have anything else.

Because they want you to think they do. I have had four wheel drives for the past thirty years and have explored most of the California and Baja California Deserts with them. If you think my 4x4's have been used and abused you are right. I have seen none of the wanna be's out where I go. In fact, I have not seen hardly anyone on the Mojave trail.

My 5.5 twelve months previous daughter began that as quickly as her brother became a million and he or she needed in spite of he needed and each little thing replaced into drama. I went out along with her to a interest keep and picked out distinctive colored marbles. Took certainly one of her brother's previous degree one jars (had stored some for odds and ends) and advised her she could get one if she stored faraway from whining and crying while she have been given disillusioned approximately some thing different than getting injury. in the beginning up, we actively "caught her" being stable and gave her a marble very frequently. Then we chop up it into morning and afternoon. while she crammed the jar, she have been given some thing small she rather needed. while she have been given fantastically stable at filling up her jar, we moved as much as a level 2 sized jar. And, we finally went to the full day as she have been given somewhat older. we've a level 3 jar this is on it rather is way out. there is not any want for it and he or she has very almost forgotten approximately it. The whining is at a minimum, and it rather have been given her rear bring about line if we threatened to take a marble away if she rather misbehaved. stable luck!!

its about stature. ppl think by driving a glorified tractor they will be taller think back to punk,s with their tall Mohawks. aside from that the machines will cut through any thing they ever hit. i saw one parked in the front of a house. they are dangerous mostly oversize and useless for anything but pulling trailers they should be banned like in Paris. if u want to be seen as a respectable driver drive something original. if u want to spend money buy a merc but above all learn to drive properly before u even consider sitting behind the wheel. that to me is more impressive than the size of whatever u drive.

Why do people keep Corvettes locked in a garage for years?
Why do people drive Ferrari's like grandmas?
Why do people put chrome 20"s on sports cars and 26"s on 4x4 trucks?
These answers as well as yours, may never be known, though your question is pretty broad.
I had an AWD Subaru and loved it, control and response, as well as supreme traction in adverse conditions.
Might also have something to do with other short comings =)

I agree completely! If it's 4x4 beat on it some more! They don't know a tow-strap from a bra strap. I have killed many parts while off-roading that's the fun of owning a 4x4.

i don't have any kids so I don't do the school run. But I do tow boat trailers and that is the reason I have one. It's been converted to gas so is more environmentally friendly than most other guzzlers. Oh. and I get a better view over the hedges!

I don't drive one, but I'll take a guess. Maybe they "think" 4 wheel drive will help them on snow and ice.
