A read a poll today that said fully a third of Americans think that the official (ie, true) version of events behind 9/11 are a government lie and conspiracy. That it wasn't 19 Islamic terrorists who drove planes into buildings, that Flight 93 was shot down by the Air Force, the Bush and Cheney were behind the whole thing. I've watched Loose Change, and more important, I've read the Popular Mechanics debunking of it (and read through Screw Loose Change). But why do some people insist that it wasn't Islamic terrorists who did this?

My gut says it's a combination of naivete and overpowering hatred for the Bush administration that is blinding these people (different ones have different levels of each). Is there something more that I'm missing? Anyone have any insight into this?

people love a good conspiracy theory
when they buy into its cloak and dagger aaspects it makes them feel like theyre privvy to info no one else knows or can comprehend
people also love any reason to slam bush
i just overheard a conversation a few days ago saying that the president "stole" the presidency
thats just not true
the electorate is the elctorate
and the popular vote is the popular vote and never the twain shall meet
i think i first heard this kaka about flight ninety three about two months after the whole thing happened when my at the time internet conspiracy theorist boyfriend "clued me in" to how the air force had shot down this plane and they were saying the passengers fouoght it out with the terrorists just to make them heroes so their wives and families wouldnt pursue litigation against the government for making them casualties of war
well
if the military were to be scrutinized in the events surrounding flight ninety three, thats exactly what they woul be dismissed as- casualties of war

These people who believe that the government is behind it seem to take one detail and use it to create what they want to believe, rather than get the whole story and truth. They take little pieces that don't make sense put together and fill in the blanks with their creative explanations. I don't believe the conspiracy theories. I've read a lot of the things they say and for every idea/theory they have about something being wrong, there is a logical explanation.

I read your question and then I read the answers and as usual .. the right wingers want to blame the leftists.. but without involving your political partisan persuasion .. lets look at this the way it should be looked at ..
analytically...
There are many unanswered questions, Both the Popular Mechanics issue as well as "Screw Loose Change " site answer certain points but completely ignore others.. neither one have any credibility because of that ..
someone calling me or anyone else a Conspiracy nut only proves that I have an inquisitive mind and that you the name caller are complaisant .. so don't embarrass yourself further by doing that ..

I'm an agnostic about Dumbya being THIS evil. The case for this would-be crime of all crimes is NOT proven with the extraordinary evidence required to sustain something SO incredible. Dictator Dumbya IS EVIL and the theft of 2 shamlections, extraordinary theft, greed, Federal crime... at LEAST 30 counts, incompetence and mismanagement ALONE makes him what impeachment and conviction in the Senate was designed for in the Constitution. He is the ultimate poster kid for this. There ARE questions left unanswered by the 9-11 Commission which I hope will be answered in a select committee of the new Democratic majority. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

Yes, sadly i used to have a friend that was conservative but now devoutly believes in the conspiracy theory. I think he believes in it because life is not exciting enough. Think about it, if it was put into a book, it would be a great read for fictional purposes.

Why is it that anything that doesn't agree with your own sensibilities becomes fake to you ? What if this video and others I have seen are true ? What then? Its easy to disagree and say its only another conspiracy made up fake attempt to discredit the government. But what if it isn't?
People say there is no bond like a mother has with a child she carried for 9 months close to her heart. But everyday those women kill those children, they starve ,beat, and murder them without a thought. Why wouldn't a government kill its on people to achieve their own goals? Lots of countries do that on a daily basis its in our news everyday. So why not question our own,why not demand answers ,why not get the whole truth.
Do I think they did,I honestly don't know and neither do you.All I ask is for Americans to open their minds to the possibility that our government may not be truthful about everything they do and say .People lie,the government is made up of people so they can and do lie.just ask your self in all honesty, what if its true. And it will shake your trust in what we hold so dear.

Lies, lies and more lies. Something is not being told to the public. Many things are not being told to the public. Popular Mechanics article: 1. "One of the clearest, most widely seen pictures of the doomed jet's undercarriage was taken by photographer Rob Howard." Flight 175 was filmed by more than 4 major news networks as it hit the South Tower as well as countless amateur and still photographers. To rely on the study of ONE photograph and claim the culprit to be lighting is absurd. There was too much smoke from the North Tower to even allow light to alter the image. Look at them ALL.
2. "Jet fuel burns at 800° to 1500°F, not hot enough to melt steel (2750°F). NIST reports that pockets of fire hit 1832°F." Still not hot enough to drop two 110 story buildings in 56 and 103 minutes, respectively. Tell me why WTC 1, 2 and 7 are the only skyscrapers in history to be taken down by fire. Need examples? Here you go - New York, 08/05/1970, 50 stories, burns for 6 hours, does not collapse; Los Angeles, 05/04/1988, 62 stories, burns for 3 hours across 4 floors, does not collapse; Philedelphia, 02/23/1991, 38 stories, burns for 19 hours across 8 floors, does not collapse; Venezuela, 10/17/2004, 56 stories, burns for 17 hours across 26 floors (reaches the roof), does not collapse.
3. WTC 7 - "NIST investigators believe a combination of intense fire and severe structural damage contributed to the collapse, though assigning the exact proportion requires more research." No mention to the PBS documentary where Larry Silverstien, controller of WTC 7, said, "I remember getting a call from the, er, fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, 'We've had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it.' And they made that decision to pull and we watched the building collapse." [PBS Home Video, ISBN 0-7806-4006-3].
4. Pentagon - "A crashing jet doesn't punch a cartoon-like outline of itself into a reinforced concrete building, says ASCE team member Mete Sozen, a professor of structural engineering at Purdue University. In this case, one wing hit the ground; the other was sheared off by the force of the impact with the Pentagon's load-bearing columns, explains Sozen, who specializes in the behavior of concrete buildings." So, the plane hit the ground, leaving a picture perfect lawn in front of the Pentagon, the wings simply came off and then disintigrated? How about the tail?
5. Yates Gladwell - How come every single search I do leads me to this one article? This seems to be the only place on the world wide web that Yates Gladwell appears in. There is too much wrong with flight 93. Check this out. http://killtown.911review.org/htb2.html

when their government is not forthcoming with the truth, when it seeks to foil independent investigation, when all physical evidence is carted off and destroyed before it can be examined, when government officials politicize the tragic event to further personal gain, when the tragic event is used over and over incite fear and mistrust thereby dividing the citizenry and used also to justify all manner of corrupt and incompetent behaviors and policies, when so many of the "facts" given just don't jive with the reality of physics, when so many questions remain unanswered ... well ... folks start thinking maybe their government is up to something evil.

Those are the same wackos who blame President Bush for rain, snow and Monica Lewinsky. The reason being mental illness, which so far has eluded medicine, but not common sense. It is because they are so open minded, that their brains fell out.

it wasnt a conspiracy, but intelligence stupidity really gave it a helpin hand. if the fbi and cia had combined all the info they had on a potential attack they coulda stopped it. however they were arrogant and too busy competing wit each other to be smart enouf to share their info wit each other. how this connects to government is this: the white house runs fbi, while congress runs cia. the fbi and cia dont like each other becuz white house and congress r stuck in a bunch of competition and ill will towards each other. ooooooo....... it wasnt a planned government conspiracy, but government arrogance and stupidity helped bring it about.
