Having opinions (be they characterized by others as "liberal" or "conservative") is not a mental disorder.
Both sides carry SOME truth.
Both sides have SOME facts to bolster their cases.
Both sides have SOME accomplishments throughout U.S. history of which they can be proud.
And there are SOME wackos on the extreme wings of both.
My suggestion: try not to be one of the wackos, no matter who you are.

Mental Disorders are serious diseases that are no fault of the person who has them. While political affiliations are the responsibility of the citizen who chooses that affiliation. The worst by far is the citizen who alligns him or herself with a party bent of hatred, fear, inequality and incompetence. It doesn't take a mentally ill person to make that allignment, it takes a morally inferior person.

How are Liberals free thinkers??? They're very Stepford in their anti-bush rhetoric and have yet to come up with any solutions to the problems facing the nation - only continually pointing them out. At least, "conservatives" come up with solutions and stick to them rather than cow-towing to special interest groups.
I'm going to stick to being middle of the road.
