its all about spin, the cons were able to make him look bad by having so many ads out there trashing him that people didnt bother to research anything themselves. the "swift boat vets for truth" as they called themselves have been linked to republican campaign organizers, and most of them didnt even know kerry personally, but once its out there on TV, no one will question it, because TV never lies...the other thing is that once you put an ad out, even if you lie on purpose, the retraction or correction usually doesnt get as much hype but you have planted a seed in peoples minds...

If you read about the facts of Kerry's Purple Hearts, he had to lobby for two of them. One, the doctor put a band-aid on (a band-aid!) and was not from enemy gunfire. The doctor who denied the Purple heart (but which whiny Kerry successfully lobbied for) is part of the Swift Boat Veterans who told the truth about Kerry. So was Kerry's commander. And his fellow officers.
I know people who received Purple Hearts, and for Kerry to have 3 without a single scar - that's just wrong.
It wasn't that he served, but that it was presented as his only reason for being elected. Reportin' fer doody. That's because in decades of Congressional service, he never did anything. Also, his actions after his active duty, his false testimony to Congress, his consorting with the VietCong and North Vietnamese in Paris while the war was ongoing, the fact that his DD214 and citiations are from the time when Carter granted amnesty to anti-war criminals (meaning his original separation papers were DIShonorable and his medals and citations rescinded), etc. The fact that the media whitewashed the whole thing was disgusting, compared to their intense digging into Bush's TANG service.
Bush never made his TANG record a part of his campaign, so why the Dems and their media lapdogs focused on that is so bizarre and loathsome.
Bush didn't dodge the draft. He served in a military unit that COULD have been called to active duty.
If you want draft-dodging, Clinton is the one - he not only lied to get out of serving, he then scampered off to England and wrote to the ROTC commander that he 'loathed the military'.
Perhaps you need some facts and wisdom to get a better perspective on all this.

the only reason Kerry volunteered replaced into for political positioning. Mimicking John Kennedy's direction. JFK... PT Boats.. international war II wounded. Hero. John Kerry.. rapid boat (PT boat equivalent).. Vietnam.... wounded. difficulty for Kerry replaced into that folk became on the war , so there is going the JFK element. He comes back together with his 3 Band-help pink Hearts and, attempting to hitch yet another holiday on the hot spirit of his circumstances, tries to redefine himself as a hero. Ever considering that, he's been leaping from side to side. Anti-protection stress various the time, yet " Lt Kerry reporting for duty!" while the the many times used public is in a battling temper. Who is conscious the place he would be next time.

What angered people the most about Kerry was not the purple hearts thing, or even his very short term of service in Viet Nam, it is what he did after he got home that made people so angry with him. To go before congress and say that all the soldiers in Viet Nam were committing war crimes and comparing them to Gingus Khan was just plain wrong. These young men were being killed by the thousands and the ones who came home were spat upon and treated like dirt. Kerry was one of the leaders of the groups who treated our returning troops so horribly. President Bush was in the National Guard which does not make him a draft dodger. For draft dodger you should check out Clinton's service record. (There is none he dodged)

1. Bush volunteered for Viet Nam. The plane he was qualified to fly was being phased out of service and no squadron of that plane was going to Nam.
2. When called about his service record Bush signed all the forms to release all of his records to the public. Kerry balked and never adequately explained how his 3 purple hearts were justified. Even today, Kerry refuses to release his military records. (What is he hiding, GAY DISCHARGE maybe?)
3. Bush is not a draft dodger, and you saying that after it has been so totally shot down shows that liberal brainwashing worked on you. You need to get help for that asap.
4. Kerry was happy in Nam when he was coastal patrol, but when he got to riverine (real danger) he got the fastest 3 purple hearts in history to get his butt off the front lines. Being a Nam vet myself, to me he is a stinking bit of offal and a coward/traitor to those he ran away from over there.

1st, Bush was not a draft dodger. He served in the Gulf Coast during the cold war as a pilot, and that unit offers logistical support to our western and southern hemisphere operations. That is like saying anyone who served in germany during nam was a draft dodger. most of the flights in Vietnam were navy pilots, not air force pilots. Bush was in the Air Force, hence the lower probability of assignment to that theatre.
2nd, bush surrogates were successful because Kerry made an issue of it. If Kerry had said nothing about it, it would never had have legs. Kerry planned poorly on that one.
3rd, the major issues with kerry were not his war record, but his post war record. He fabricated stories for the sake pf press, and staged scenes of false indignation for the sake of even more press. He turned his back on his brothers-in-arms for the sake of political gain. If Kerry had kept his mouth shut, his post-war record would never have gotten off the ground.
That is why. As stupid as Bush supposidly is, he is an excellent campaigner.

President Bush is a veteran, and is the 2nd smartest person on the Republican party. He would not bash a fellow veteran, especially a decorated American war hero like Kerry. However some conservowackos have any IQ under 50, and seem to think that bashing American War Heros is a good idea.
President Bush said he admires Kerry's military record, while the conservowackos faked photos of Kerry with Jane Fonda and distributed them.

It's very simple. His pals bought the press.
Since Bush stole the election back in 2000, his gang of adventurist bandits have placed the West in a state of war. That made it easier for the Bush camp to spin Bush into some sort of stronger war hero type than Kerry.
Also, just before the elction in 2004, Bush's pals at the CIA (prop.: G Bush senior) got Osama bin Laden to sebmit a tape proclaiming his undying support for John Kerry, thus ensuring that every undecided with a vote would run, screaming in mad terror, to the ballots to place their faith, and their votes, with Bush.

It's hard to take your question seriously, when you have obviously already made up your mind about the issue-as evidence by your use of charged words like "draft dodger."
Perhaps when you get your facts straight you should re-post the question. Bush did not dodge the draft. Kerry did serve dishonorably, and many have come forward to attest to that fact.
It was probably successful because he was speaking the truth about Kerry.

Have to agree with MattinHouston and Daisy.
Not to be mean, but whoever questioned this is seriously uninformed and already biased.
Go research what the guys he served with had to say about his service and what he said about his service.
Kerry lost because he continually contradicted himself.
And about his purple hearts... I could be wrong, let me know if you find a source the discounts this, but he himself requested his purple hearts... they we not awarded to him on behalf of someone else which is the spirit of that honor. A demonstration of what everyone saw in his campaign... no one really speaks up for him. - he pounds his own chest..
