It is illegal and should be. People commit suicide because of love problems, money problems, mentall illness, depression, etc. They feel overwhelmed, and can't make a rational deciscion about such things. Sometimes drugs can have side effects that cause people to have suicidal thoughts. If suicide were legal it would let the manufacturers off the hook. Murderers could get away with it if they made their victim's death appeared to be suicide (if it were legal, why bother to investigate?)
Anyone who is suicidal should sek help.

It is not considered by law enforcement as being legal or illegal since suicide results in a dead body and to cite a dead body is absurd. Consider a person shot to death while robbing a store. The dead body is not charged with robbery. Death supercedes any possible earthly punishment. When law enforcement is called to the scene of one who has attempted suicide or is believed by LE to be capable of attempting it then they will transport the individual usually to an Emergency Dept capable of assessing the potential of the individual to attempt suicide. This is often done with the help of a CDMHP or county designated mental health professional especially if the individual needs admission and is mandatory if the admission is involuntary.
The issue of legality in suicide relates to the topic of physician-assisted suicide in which case the physician is the one who might be charged. This is what happened to Dr. Kevorkian. Statutes may vary slightly from state to state. I live in Washington state.

Suicide is the taking of a life.
The taking of a life is called murder. Committing murder is against the law.
Once a murder has been committed, the CRIME has to be investigated.
Some people believe suicide is a victimless crime. But the key word here - it is a CRIME.
Details:
The person committing this particular kind of CRIME is accurately said to be a danger to himself. Anyone who is considered a danger or threat to a human life - even his own - has to be removed from society.
The incarceration for this CRIME is a bit different in that the guilty person poses an immediate threat to himself rather than to others. This being the case, sentencing is immediate, without benefit of a trial in a court of law. The CRIMINAL is sentenced to a medical facility for assessment, medication and other treatment as deemed necessary by that medical facility.
All current laws are largely based on the Bible. "Thou shalt not kill.." That commandment says it all. You notice the wording? It does not say "Thou shalt not kill others.."
It is not only a CRIME against man, it is a CRIME against God.

it is not legal or illegal.
There is no crime committed. you are not charged with anything
The government (the police) by law can take you to a hospital involuntary if they have reason to believe that you are suicidal, homicidal, or mentally disoriented. (By statute) The Government has the responsibility to protect life. Most states can keep you in hospital up to 72 hours without a court hearing. However most states will agree with the doctor's recommendation for a longer stay if needed.
The process is called involuntarily admitting or emergency admission to a hospital. A police officer or a medical doctor can do this

Simple answer: yes it is illegal. But it is seldom if ever charged as a crime although many people who attempt suicide are referred to mental hospitals, etc. Of course, if one does commit suicide there is no one to charge. Personally, I believe each person has a absolute right to commit suicide, it is after all my life to live. Or die. Also I hear often about how a person that takes their life is a coward. That is absurd. To pull the trigger knowing that you are about to die takes more guts then I will ever have.
Many referred to the 9/11 high-jackers as cowards, that to is absurd. To crash yourself to death takes more guts then most of us will ever have.

Technicality. whether it extremely is against the regulation to deprive somebody of there civil rights. And killing a individual deprives them of all civil rights. This incorporates your very own individual. Making it unlawful to legalize suicide. As doing so would deprive a individual of there civil rights.

In the UK, suicide is a criminal act, therefore commiting suicide actually breaks the law. However ou cannot be prosecutted once your dead, but if someone helps you to commit suicide, they can be prosecuted with "aiding a suicide" or even "manslaughter".
