I received an email the other day it said, "Why should we have to press 1 for English?" What is your opinion of that and why?

I think that on the one hand, we try to practice 'equal opportunity', but the language issue is thus: When you're in the United States, doing business in the United States, our national language IS english, or rather 'american' because we don't speak Queen's English in america, so, why go through one more step to have telephone support for whatever IN english? the 'press 1' should be automatic, as english is what most people speak. I wouldn't mind if they add 'por service en espanol, imprima numero dos', but you shouldn't have to choose english in the United States.
We spend a lot of time, effort, and money on this kind of thing, it's been going on for years, remember Beverly Hills Cop? In THAT movie, which must be 15 years old by now, they had a thing where they tried to call the local police department. It was a gag, but they stood there 5 minutes trying to get through in english. That's just stupid.

If people want to live and work in the United States, well, let's go ahead and learn some english, eh?

If you look at a website, it's in english, with the option to select other languages(if available). But, the main business is IN english.
Funny since u mention it, look at the bottom of this web page.
Notice the 2 american flags, one in english, one 'en espanol'.
Makes you think, doesn't it? What's REALLY going on, here? Hmm....I think some people would like to see the 51st through 54th states, is what I think....also that if you have a list of languages, that is better than a list of countries. But hey, I didn't design it...for that matter, english has largely become the international language of business. So, why all the pretense and stuff? Why employ 15 operators that speak different languages, or re-record the same message 15 times in 15 different languages? There comes a time when standardization raises its' ugly head as a method of economy and expediency, I think...

I have never been to any other country where it tells me to press 1 or 2 for English. It's discrimination against other minorities.

I thought it was kind of cleaver. I got the same email. I guess it's too much to ask for English to be the predominant language in the US. It might hurt someones feelings in our politically correct world. Illigal alians are undocumented worker. Next looters will be called undocumented shoppers. lol

plain and simple....it's garbage! we shouldn't have to choose whether it's English or spanish...it should be English only. if they don't speak or at least try to learn English then tough.

Someone doesn't think it's right that there are other language options. They don't realize that the company may be global. Why they would send it to you, I have no idea.

I think it is dumb. Why should we have to go through a whole menu to get what we want in the first place? It is annoying...one more option is not going to kill you. Get over it!
