It is racist. Some forget there are Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Danish, French, German, Italian, speakers and others who do not make such demands to learn there language, in America. Racism it is. Why forget about the others in our nations great melting pot? English should be spoken first. My thought on the issue.

I might sound a little racist but I am also a Hispanic (Mexican) when I answer this. I hardly understand Spanish i can barely speak it. I find it hard when I go fill out applications and get interview and the first question is am I bilingual. I hate this because I feel I am somehow discriminated against because3 of Spanish speakers who want to enter illegally and are to stubborn to want to learn English. I am fourth generation American My great grandparents, grandparents, parents all speak English. Don't get me wrong if people want to come to this country legally or illegally at least speak english. There is a store owner around my neighborhood. He is middle eastern and he speaks native language, English and Spanish. So if he can do it why can't everyone else. I am not saying spanish forced on every one But growing up in a hispanic neighborhood was very hard for me. I was an outcast at my school. Even thugh I was the same race. I have no problem with y own race or any other I just think If you come to America than people should learn the language that Americans speak the most. I don't think I was understood correctly or somepoele need to read this more then once and try to make an assumption. READ slowly and then make your comments.

I have lived in California all my life, and have yet to experience anyone shoving Spanish on me.

So, where does this shoving occur? Do a bunch of Hispanic toughs follow you home, intimidating you into conjugating verbs?

I have an aunt who immigrated from Germany over 60 years ago. She still speaks German to her friends and relatives. I asked her if people speaking Spanish offends her. Being that she is married to my Hispanic uncle, perhaps she felt intimidated, (as you are) into saying she wasn't.

Finally, the only immigrants who DON'T make a real attempt to learn English are the very old. Every one else tries very hard to learn the language of the country.

If you believe everything in your statement is true, then I doubt you formed these thoughts for yourself. Everything you stated is a boiled down fragment of what someone ELSE is intimidating you into saying.

"Rosiejac" is even worse. She feels discriminated against because a business owner asks if she has a skill that will help that business thrive. Don't you get it? He want to hire someone who can best help him. Even your Middle Eastern neighbor gets it. You want some discrimination? How would you feel if you found out you got your interview because you had a Hispanic surname?, or you skin was dark?

I can't think of one good reason why a person would want to come to this country, live here, enjoy our freedoms and privileges, work here, but refuse to learn our language, instead forcing us to learn theirs. This is pure ignorance. The country is slowly turning into a colony of Mexico.

yes i totally agree with you....not speaking English in the US not only hinders their success it also puts them in a category of peasants and second class citizens. that is what they are right now, but damn it that is their fault for not learning English ...it's their choice.

The Latinos want everything given to them on a silver platter. They do not want to expend any energy to learn the language.
