"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."

snopes confirmed the quotes as true

economic sanctions worked so well, Russia and China had oil contracts with saddam. Clintons bombing worked so well that saddam still refused to let inspectors in, even after agreeing to let them in.

What I think is really sad is that Democrats complain that Bush did not 'do enough' to stop Al Qaeda when they say he had information that they were a threat.
Now they cry like babies that he 'did enough' to eliminate what Democrats insisted was our Greatest Threat. (Democrat leaders dropped more bombs on Iraq in the 90s than on Al Qaeda)
Well, no wonder we call them the Loony Left.
We have so far found in Iraq over 500 chemical artillery shells that Saddam supposedly no longer had, centrifuge parts, chemical weapons dumped in the Euphrates river... Saddam is guilty as the Democrats charged. They're just trying to pretend they didn't.

I think these quotes show a longtime trend of politicians in the United States to be unclear what sort of power Iraq really had left. It does show that the Clinton Administration were aware of the fact Iraq was a highly volatile. You'll notice though that they didn't act against the wishes of the international community or break American law and go to war with a country without the appropriate congressional laws being written and ratified; they had the good sense to gather intelligence. And, we know just three short years later as Bush was looking at this intelligence and being shown that they'd found little/no likelihood of WMD, he still chose to lie to us about this and perpetrate misinformation on the public to justify his actions. So to me the quotes you're showing here don't say so much that the Clinton Administration is the reason Bush went to war...it's showing that they began gathering the intelligence he ignored when deciding to go to war long before 9/11 and were not covering their eyes ignoring the international threats to the United States that GW insinuated during his first campaign.
In my opinion...and of course it's just an opinion, and not likely to dissuade anyone of their beliefs...the reason we were led into a war with Iraq is because GW Bush has an exceedly low opinion of the world around us. He ran an isolationist policy for the months prior to 9/11, and the 9/11 commision put out quotes from him and his cabinet members showing they were notified of international issues, and that they recieved a general response to the effect of "screw it, you're exaggerating the threat." GW Bush couldn't be bothered with international policy until it literally blew up in his face....and that's why I feel we're in such a mess now. This isn't a republican or democrat, or liberal or conservative thing at all...this is a wise versus unwise situation.

I'm not a "liberal" or "conservative" but common, let's be fair. Everyone knew something was going to have to be done about Saddam, I think what people question is Bush's timing (we still haven't taken care of al qaeda, still bogged down in Afganastan, still haven't found Osama), and the way he led us into the war (against the wishes of many Americans, with lies, poor planning).

My conservative friend, liberals will never admit they are wrong.
A conservative will admit their fault and then the liberals pounce on that. Many people will mature in body but not mind. It exposes the greedy, selfish nature of many people.
All they are concerned with is regaining power and getting the country back on the track to socialism and free healthcare, abortion on demmand, and the elimination of all that is Christian.
If they ever achieve this goal, it will be much like the islamic regimes out there in existence now. And... boy! will the ignorant ones that go along with the democrats ever be surprised when they start wearing burkas and get beaten by the new religious leaders.

I think there is blame to be shared on both side, how about we stop the BS, we are where we are. to move forward we have to understand the eagle can't fly with one wing. until both wings are equal a circle is all we will fly. to point out bad behavior to excuse bad behavior on either side is not helping. The enemy is not Dem's vs Repubs, its good vs. evil. I don't agree with a lot of what dems stand for but I don't think they are evil. I don't agree with alto of what repubs stand for but they are not evil either. why must we continue to divide this great country?

Georgie went into Iraq saying they caused 9/11. He lied. Clinton and the lot are saying that Saddam has WMDs. OK, they were wrong. But they weren't lying their way into war.

it took you all that cutting and pasting to realize that the Democrats wanted this as much as the Republicans... Jesus man, wake up!
The Republicans and Democrats are simply two factions of the business ruling class party, the opposite of the People. Once you get to know who you are and where you fit in the spectrum of politics and power the better... In the meantime you will continue to be nothing more than a supporter of the plutocracy that seeks to put your kids back into child labor, wants to get rid of the 8 hr. day, wants to get rid of your rights! You support that. The roll back to 1900. Well, have fun... you are spitting on the graves of the many Americans who gave thier lives for such freedoms, not the goddman troops fool, the citiznes who were awake and engaged and knew who we are as a nation...
wow you need a civics course.

We have been continuosly at a point where anyone can read something Bush says and the opposite be true.
Most regular people don't believe a word that comes out of the Bush administration's crooked, corrupt mouths anymore.

You are going to keep rewording this question. Nothing will exculpate the Bush administration's guilt for lying to the American people and leading us into a war of choice under false pretenses.
This makes him a war criminal. The fact is we have killed tens of thousands of innocent civilians, destabilized the Middle East and caused Al Queada to be more decentralized and dangerous than it ever was before.
I wish you and your Republican fellow travelers the joy of this war the GOP created.
