The Space Shuttle is the fastest aircraft by far ! It flies at over Mach 4 (four times the speed of sound) as it heads to space. The next would be the SR-71 Blackbird which by military records flies at Mach-3+ the actual speed has not been released by the Air Force or NASA. But if you look at the last flight of the 71, the time it took to get from NY to CA it flew faster than Mach 4.5. As for passenger craft the Concorde wins hands down with supersonic flight by a passenger aircraft.
HOWEVER , this will all be moot soon as a new scram jet is tested in Australia. The Canberra will be tested on a rocket possibly able to reach Mach 10. If this occurs, and a new test bed is made to be able to withstand the speeds, we will see a new king of speed. (SEARCH- worlds fastest jet australia)

Concorde..it is the fastest passenger aircraft which can go to heights of 68, 000 feet above ground from where u can see the earth round in shape. it can travel at the speed of sound. there are some faster planes than this one, but they are only jet fighters. the most common and usual fast and supersonic is Concorde.

Technically, the Space Shuttle. Its the only winged vehicle that has achieved orbit. If you don't require wings, then the Apollo spacecraft. They've left Earth orbit.

i agree with the people that have said the space shuttle, even though it is powered by 2 rocket boosters. to break into orbit, the space shuttle needs to be going 17,321 mph which, if you want to put it into Mach... its about 22 times the speed of sound
... Mach 22
