Yes.
At least, I'm a military spouse, and I can tell you that we were well informed about it when waiting for our soldiers to return from deployment. I think the soldiers went through similar briefings.
When they returned, they had to stay on the base for a few weeks before taking leave, to spot any possible problems. Soldiers were given cards with information about contacting counselors, suicide hotlines, things like that. Spouses were briefed on warning signs to look for--what's normal, what's not.
I think there is a really good level of awareness. There may still be a problem with the perceived stigma of asking for help--that's a harder problem to deal with. But certainly they're trying.

Yes, the Army has programs in place that help both the returning servicemember (who is in active combat zones) and those who are their dependents and left behind while they are deployed -- and that includes counseling for all the parties, as well as treatment for PTSD.

Actually, it is not unknown. Vietnam vets are typically diagnosed with it. Anyone is susceptible to PTSD. Anyone who has experience psychological trauma, whatever it was, rape, war, seeing something terrible.

I hope you overcome it.

In the old days they would just call it battle fatigue and give you a couple days leave in a port city.
