Eisenhower wrote in his exit speech (upon leaving the white house as president):
"Beware the military Industrial complex..."
Unfortunately, we have not "bewared." The "military industrial complex" is managing the US. It is ignoring the needs of our citizens in favor of destroying a country for which we had no good reason (other than our wish to control access to oil, which is the real reason.)
And it is ruinous to our country - and will bankrupt it. Bush is BORROWING $HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS from China. How will that money be paid back? The Neo-Con plan was that the sale of oil out of Iraq would pay for the war, but that has not worked out. So, you and I will pay off the loan to China.
WORSE: This war was a terrible waste of human resources. It is tearing the US military to shreds and weakening our reputation as a world leader. Recruitment is down because far too many young people do not believe the use of our military in this way is right. (Look up the "WATADA" case in Yahoo Search to see an example of a military guy who says he'll go anywhere, but Iraq - because that war is morally WRONG.)
You cannot ever create a "war on terrorism" by attacking a country (especially when the country you are attacking HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE 9/11 TERRORISTS!) Terrorists have no "country" and when you attack a country based on a false premise (that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction), you actually create more "terrorists" who become bent on revenge.
So, expect another attack on our country. And it may be generated by a family member of someone killed in Iraq.

"There is a right time and a right place to do everything. There is a time for peace and a time for war." -Ecclesiastes
An idealistic person might think that war is bad without considering the other factors. He might think that it does not work. and it just destroys the world. On the other hand a realistic person opens his eyes to what is right and what is supposed to happen. Well I am not saying that war is good. it depends upon the circumtance. As long as negotiation is possible it is a better way. However if things doesn't work take the other step to make a new result.

War is never a good thing and neither is people getting killed all fighting for what they truly believe in.
War should always be the last resort and measure and used only when one must defend themselves on their own grounds.
Fighting over bad military intelligence is a sin and cost us many too many life's (one would have been too many).
I support our troops 100% and stand behind them all the way, but I have been to too many military funerals lately to see any justification for this war.

When a war happens that means it wasn't prevented before it broke out because the underlying issues that led to it weren't properly addressed.
War between nation states is a failure of long term diplomacy between nations, so by that definition no war is ever a good thing.
Any other groups staging an attack or waging something like a war is a failure of law enforcement to rein in and arrest extremists, a failure of education to teach tolerance, understanding and effective non-violent means to address and resolve underlying root causes of political violence, good civics, and a failure of governments to bring peace, prosperity, stability and justice to the vast majority of it's people.

War is a good thing when you are defending your nation from foreign agressors or terrorist who want too cause harm or death too the people and assets of this country.
I am glad my grandfathers generation had the balls too stand up too dictors and two bit thugs....
I wonder how the democrats would whine and complain if we lost the amount of men in cassualties as we did in one battle durring the war in world war 2.....
Deaths accure in war....that is why war is hell....but you grit your teeth put your head down and soldier on.....and you WIN....then you bring the troops home!

yes it is a good thing. If you were over there like some of us were and looked into the eyes of a child that thanks you for giving them there freedom. Or being hugged by a mother that is overwhelmed by the fact that her children are going to be able to grow up in a free country.
You will know it is a good thing you are there for.
DON'T LISTEN TO THESE IDIOTS THAT HAVE NEVER SERVED THERE COUNTRY. THEY ARE JUST HATE MONGERS THAT WILL SAY ANY LIE THEY CAN THINK OF TO PUT DOWN THE GREAT MAN WE HAVE AS PRESIDENT. WHEN THEY PIC UP A WEAPON AND PUT THERE LIVES ON THE LINE FOR THERE COUNTRY THEN I WILL LISTEN TO THERE OPINION. BUT THEN AGAIN I'M SURE IT WOULD BE A DIFFERENT OPINION THEN. FUNNY HOW THAT HAPPENS.

We have been under attack by muslim militants for years and 9/11 was a declaration of war !! We are in the beginning stages of WW111, in my opinion, and bad or good we're stuck with it. This is a war that we must win at all cost unless the thought of praying to rocks, watching mass beheadings and mutilations. torture and abuse of women, and returning to life as it was in the stone ages appeals to you !!!!!!

What a bad troll. You can't even stay in character for your own question. Truly amusing.
And in answer to your question...
No, war is a bad thing. It is also sometimes a necessary bad thing as an alternative to a much worse thing.
