I don't get why people claim water is so healthy. It contains zero nutrients, and water is found in almost all kinds of food and liquids. Even lettuce or beef contains water!
Most people will tell you otherwise, but I doubt you are going to die from drinking too much diet soda. If you drink pure water, it's going into the same digestive system as the food you eat, so drinking pure water can't possibly have any benefits above drinking something more tasty.
As long as you get enough fluid to keep your body functioning, your body will be happy. The most dangerous thing for the body when drinking soda is teeth rot. Carbonated water is slightly more acidic than normal water.

Water provides a way to remove the waste your cells produce from your body. If you don't drink enough water, the waste can build up and prove toxic to your body. Water helps your kidney remove toxins. The Human body is 60% water so you need to drink water to replenish what you lose. The chemical reactions that keep you functioning cannot take place without an adequate supply of water.
When drink other substances besides water your kidney filters and removes the toxins from these substances. If you live in a polluted environment your body is constantly trying to get rid of all the toxins. Adequate water assists it in doing so.
Carbonation is simply dissolved carbon dioxide (the tiny bubbles that form when pressure is released upon opening a can or bottle of soda). Some people are sensitive to carbonation and experience stomach fullness or mild stomach upset.
Phenylalanine is similar to aspartame and can have side effects if taken in large quantities.

No they are not.
Phenylalanine is though by some to cause cancer, although this hasn't been thoroughly proven. Diet soda will still damage your teeth to some degree. The sweet taste from the sweetener will trigger an urge for sweet stuff, which might make you end up eating candy to stop it. Carbonated water might cause gastrite if overconsumed. (Replacing all water with soda most certainly is overconsumption)
Stick with water most of the day and have one or two cans of soda.

Avoid aspartame. I have been aspartame free for almost 4 years. I was drinking 4 to 5 cans of diet Coke per day and had dizzy spells, light headedness and was constantly tired. Ever since I gave up the aspartame, I have been symptom free. I only drink diet products with Splenda.

No, the artificial flavorings are the culprit. I feel that drinking soda all the time makes one stay thirsty and so you drink more soda. Next time you're thirsty drink some water and see if your still thirsty. Water quenches, soda just leaves you feeling thirsty. If you are drinking dark colas you are also depleting the calcium in your bones.

Plus caffeine eventually dehydrates you, also, I have heard, have not checked this though, that the carbonation depletes calcium from your bones somehow. Finally, I believe phenylalanine has caused cancer in lab rats.

No, the body needs water for just about every chemical process that occurs in the body. For example: the body need water to break down polysaccharides through hydrolysis, (aka breaking down starches).

no, soda is not as helathy as water. it makes you bloated or makes your body retain water. also, it contains too much sugar which if over done could lead to diabetes. water is your best bet but once in a while you may have some soda.

No, not as healthy as water (except maybe as the water in the Hudson River). :P The sweeteners aren't dangerous, they are just of no nutritional value. :)
