Is a low carb diet good for losing weight? I'm talking protein and non starchy veggies. How much weight a week can you lose?

A person who speaks negatively about low carb is not educated about what low carb actually is. If you read about this type of diet you can see that it really makes sense. It is not unhealthy. Tell me what is unhealthy about just not eating flour, sugar, rice, potatoes and corn? These things are full of the kind of carbs that make you fat. What is bad about lean meat, healthy veges, lower sugar fruits like strawberries and canalope? You do not need high carbs to survive. I have been doing low carb for almost 3 years now. My cholesterol is perfect. I never have heart burn any more. I have more energy than I know what to do. I am very healthy and haven't gained one pound in over 2 years eating this way. Since I am maintaining I now I eat all I want until I am comfortably full, never count calories or carbs I just eat legal things.

I think it's too harsh, though many of the ideas are good: eliminating refined sugars is an excellent idea for everyone, whether they're trying to lose weight or not. But I think the "low-carb" diet as practiced by most people goes too far. Beans, carrots, and fruit are good for you! Eat them!

I agree with Skeeter, mostly. The thing about lean meats I don't agree with. Saturated fats are not as bad as claimed for the last 40 years or so. They are essential to good health. Its the trans fats and oxidized fats (what happens when you cook at high heat) that will get you. Use coconut oil for medium - high pan frying. Much safer.

I give kudos to Skeeter and suggest you both read the following informative links.

Low carb diets are for people who don't exercise, and are afraid of getting diabetes. If you want to loose weight, try some exercise.

Low carb diets cut out good carbs too. Try the 'no whites' diet, it cuts out refined sugars, but keeps in good sugars!
