JoBu knows this is a tuff one. She is at the time of her life when she doesn't care about her actions anymore. Maybe you should feed her some spiked funnel cake. This way you can accuse her of being drunk at work. Rum can save the day!

I had a similar problem except this woman tried to undermine and disgrace her co-workers to make her look better. She would listen through partitions to dredge up scandal. I saw her enter the area next to me. I picked the phone and spoke into it, explaining to the unknown person not to worry about the filters on the new power supply. I said "no one is going to do the math, so stop worrying. I'll fix it after the meeting". At the meeting she announced that she had "done the math and found that my filter system would not meet specs. It was then she learned I did not design the filters, the head of engineering did. She picked up her final check that day. Feed your's some gossip that sounds good but won't hold up.

your question didn't give us much info, same level, work in next cubical. Know what your going through is tough, The thing I would do, at lunch or away from your desks at least, would polity tell her, that you have so much to deal with "AT" the office, you never mix home & work life stanards while at work, it is sad that she's so bored and not have enough to do, but to tell her thought would only start a office uproar, which you'd be blamed for, lets hope she retires soon or gets another past-time-good luck to you

At 60, its going to be hard to change her. When she gets nosy, just change the topic to something work related. Tell your co workers to do the same. Hopefully she will get the hint. Are her intentions good or is she a gossip and says mean things? She may be lonely.

What's her motivation? Does she have a boring life and need some excitement? Is she lonely and just trying to be close to people? Sounds like she needs a friend.
I'd just tell her that you are a work-oriented, private person who isn't interested in talking socially on the company's dime and prefers not to overlap work relationships with social relationships.

conspire with the rest of the office staff to start a rumour, but keep it from her.
above all, make sure she knows that there is something no one's telling her! if you're subtle about it, it'll drive her mental!!

Pay her a little attention but let her know where it stops. Talk to her and let her know how annoying she can get at times. Trust me...

After you resolve this question, print out all the responses and slip it on her desk when she isn't there... make sure to make yourself anonymous.

If she has a supervisor mention that if she has that enough time to get into everyone's business then she needs more work to do!
