when you first meet someone that is attractive, what makes you like them beyond looks? what kind of person do you want them to be? what type of personality is most attractive and what traits are instant "knock-outs"?

Well, what i like most is a man to whom I can speak in full depth-- as in, I can give a totally raw, honest protrayal of my thinking, opinions, view, feelings, stories etc and be understood.
I DO NOT like the feeling that his understanding is limited, such that I would have to fit into a box that he could then 'see me'; I dont want to change my personality to be able to get along with anyone, or get recognition/approval form them, ever. I want to be me. I want him to be emathetic and acknowledging, and respectful, of my uniqueness and where I am, what i feel, etc- regardless of if its 'different' from what HE thinks, because who says he sets the standards of who others are- so if he does that, that is SUCH a plus!!
Sadly sometimes in day-to-day encounters, we have to be more shallow than we really are, but I want none of that in my personal relationship....
Personality can be anything, if he has those important skills to make a relationship healthy and loving, and important developmental achievments:self-awareness, intelligence, trust, confidence etc

What attracts me to a guy other than "good looks" is an amazing personality, sense of humor. He has to be able to take a joke or two. His smile must brighten the room. outgoing sweet and flirty.

Beyond looks, it would have to be that they can carry on a conversation without babbling like a total idiot and that they have goals beyond getting laid and watching as much football as possible.

Besides looks? You have more than one question here. I will answer one. For personality, I would have to say the guy should be somewhat playful, funny, easy going....and chattable.

He has got to be down to earth, a real good guy, but not a push over. Also girls LOVE men who are chivalrous but not in a fake way.

I definitly like a guy with a sense of humor. If im like at a party and I see a guy and i talk to him and he can make me laugh thats really good.

their voice, the way they look at me,in my eyes not at my boobs and body.not obnoxious, if they ask questions and seem interested in me, and a funny personality.

i like guys who are really easy to talk to..laid back. and funny. and their clothes cant be like tight or little..thats just ****** if they are..they can't be like dorky..or touchy feely..
touchy feely guys are too femy..
