I would NEVER look down on a soldier for refusing to fight for Iraq. In fact, I'd call him a hero.

Anyone who refuses to go to Iraq is more loyal to the values of our country than all the republicans I know.

They VOLUNTEER to join the U.S. military. Nobody is forced into it. That's the chance you take when you sign on the dotted line. The only hero is the one fighting to protect your rights, not the one that turns tail and runs. You should be looked down upon for thinking any coward that deserts or hides is a hero. I dare you to step up and live the life of any GOOD soldier for just one week. You couldn't handle it because you sit behind a puter and praise those that take advantage of the ones willing to courageously do their job.

As a vietnam veteran, who didn't agree with that war, but served anyway; I will tell you this- Anyone who enters the service and then refuses to go to war, should be tried for treason.
Politics have no place in the service, other than a military Man or Womans right to vote. That right is earned by them. They fight so you can b_itch and complain about the world you live in.

And isn't it strange that so many in the military vote REPUBLICAN?

When you sign up, you know full well that you could be going to war. It has nothing to do with Democrats, Republicans, Conservatism, or Liberalism.

So, if someone "shucked" their obligation, I would hope they got in trouble for doing so. And, I would be highly ashamed of that person even though I think we shouldn't have went to Iraq.

Absolutely,
For some reason we will sign up for the military to get college, medical and other GI bill benefits yet we are astounded that we will have to take orders or fight wars in foreign lands. The military has one purpose from the governments side and it's the same whether the Pres is rep or dem. That is to fight for our country.
Sign up just for the good times and benefits then cry foul when you are ordered to fulfil the obligation is rediculous.

Most people who join the military know they may be called to go to war. its the nature of the job. Its not up to the soldier to decide where we go, but to go when called. Missing soldiers can create big problems not just for the war effort but for the ones who stayed. This can increase the workload and stress of the remaining service members, and even cost lives. Can i blame them, Yes, yes i can.

Your opinion is well taken.

I am just really pleased that it wasn't the prevailing wisdom in 1941 - otherwise we would presently all be speaking either German or Japanese and answering to a tyrant dictator.

I truly believe that the biggest threat to our way of life today is the Islamic terrorists' agenda of a one world government under Islamic Law - without any infidels, of course. (That's you and me and our families and friends, by the way)

I hope someday you will realize that the reality is that most tyrants and dictators who have become intoxicated with their own power do not abide by the old adage, "Live and let live."

It is a Volunteer army.

You can call a coward a hero if you wish, because of all of the Dead Patriots that came before us, you still have that right.

Peace!

your idea of a hero is typical! Let others do the fighting while you enjoy your "rights" and blaspheme those who gave you your "rights"
