Natural- it is made by a natural brewing process, and if you look at the label of cheap "vinegar" it actually calls itself "non-brewed condiment" because it is made in a lab. If you've ever had a bag of grapes go off, you'll know the sour smell of natural vinegar. Although it is made by man, it isn't man-made because all we do is allow the natural processes to progress. nylon is man-made because it is artificial processes that create it.

Hello,

Vinegar is a human-made substance. It is made from fermenting the juice of fruit, (usually apples or grapes) then adding sugar and yeast. Vinegar has been used since the begining of human civilisation for it's healing and cleansing properties.

There is some current research into the benefits of vinegar for human health.

Apple cider vinegar is the most healthful of all vinegars to consume. Where as white vinegar, a less expensive version can be used for household cleaning - windows, tea-pots, drains, everything!

A few interesting links below:

I hope this is helpful. Are you thinking about trying the Cider Vinegar health regime? or are you just curious about vinegar in general? :o)

Vinegar is a sour-tasting liquid made from the oxidation of ethanol in wine, cider, beer, fermented fruit juice, or nearly any other liquid containing alcohol. It can also be made by certain bacteria operating on sugar-water solutions directly, without intermediary conversion to ethanol (see acetic acid). Commercially available vinegar usually has a pH of about 2.4.

The word Vinegar comes from the Old French vin aigre, meaning "sour wine."

Well, it certainly can occur in nature. If an apple tree for example were to drop its fruit to the ground, and that fruit were left unmolested by animals the juice inside might very well ferment into vinegar, just as some rotting fruits ferment into alcohlic liquids under the right circumstances. If you have ever lived on a farm and watched birds eating old cherries from a tree you can see them get quite drunk off of it.
