I think if it were funny I would learn something. But because it’s just so depressing and horrifying I just despise it.
Do you feel the same way? or is it just me?

I love history. Sometimes life also is "depressing and horrifying" do you "despise" life too ?

Through history I manage to understand better people and the world.

No, history is nothing more than storys of the past. Do you think there weren't funny things that happened in the past. When reporters asked FDR where our planes came from in the Doolitle raid, he replied Shangrali. Jimmy Carter once said he was attacked while fishing by a rabbit. Lincoln once said, I" have stepped out upon this platform that I may see you and that you may see me, and in the arrangement I have the best of the bargain." He also said, "If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?" These quotes are from our best president, wouldn't you like to learn more about him? He had little formal eductation but he was one of the most intelliegent and compassionate men in history.

Its depends on what part of history your learning. All history is not rainbows . There were bloddy fights and mass killings. But for instant , the age of englightment is a incrediable part of history, The American reveloution and the Cival wars . while bloody and depressing , i suppose ,are equally intresting. I mean we fought for independance and then fought each other.... and we are still one nation.

History isnt really funny except when talking about inventions, or actually people..like leaders and stuff.

Our own history is so young that maybe looking at europ's might make it more intreting for you. Though i think the American history is fascinating.:)

well think about it this way if we dont study it cause it is horrifying then we dont leanr and it wont change. we have to learn form history in order to make the future better. a wise man onced said those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. and even though u are right it is pretty depressing we alwyas atleast learn a lil :D

I love history. I always have, from the very first time I studied it. Maybe you've had bad teachers who haven't made it interesting for you, or who've focused on the 'depressing' parts.
When I study history, I always imagine living in all of those different ages. Rather than dwell on the 'horrifying' events, study the people's everyday lives, what they wore, what sort of homes they lived in. It's fascinating.

I think history is fun to learn, because you can always pretend that you are there in the historic events, & thats pretty funny, because just the way the people act in the events that happened!!!

Are you the kind of person who prefers reality and knowledge or are you the kind of person who prefers ignorant bliss. I could never truely be happy knowing that I am lying to myself and I don't think anybody can. My opinion is that you should study history even if it can be depressing at times. History is also extremely interesting.

I understand you. Especially when you know that people who write it are very boring themselves. History itself is interesting like a detective. One more thing to add. History mustn't be rewritten, but we often come ac cross with the fact that people write the history they like. That's the problem. Don't worry. though. The more history you know the cleverer you are, because it gives much opportunity to analyze facts. You will be sure to like it.

I think it's a good way to learn from other people's mistakes, funny how that has never happened.
