NO! Rob Reiner is a jerk. What is there to be forgiven for? If you ask me some of the movies that they make in hollywood should NEVER be let out in public. There's more sex and violence in movies today than need be. Everywhere you turn there is some one being murdered, molested or raped. And people wonder why our society as gone to HELL! Where are people's MORAL'S?

well i dont agree with Gibsons personal views, but to be honest the ''Passion of Christ'' is an great movie and there are some truths in the movie and that is a fact.and anyways people do have the right to express an opinion even if we do not agree with that opinion .didnt the paying public pay in to see the film so whats the complaint. As regards being anti semitic(which im not) i think mel gibson should apologise to the people in question in his own way who are WE to tell him what to do.WE are not living under a dictatorship are we....be fair

I do not believe that it would make a difference if Mel Gibson admitted to being anti Semitic or not - the damage is already done. When you look at his tirade when he was arrested, he made it perfectly clear about his beliefs. It would come across as staged and insincere if he were to denounce his movie or try to claim (as he already has) that he is not anti-Semitic.
In response to a few of the posts I read before me, I would like to simplify something so there is a better understanding. I am going to make a simple comparison between the Jews and Jesus and the Blacks and Martin Luther King, Jr.
Both Jesus and Martin Luther King, Jr. were great men. They were both men of peace and they were both men of equality. In their respective times, they were also considered peaceful radicals.
In the time of Jesus, there was no such religion as Christianity. Therefore, there was a division between the Jews who distanced themselves from Jesus because they either felt that he was too dangerous to be around or because they felt that he was elevating himself beyond the status of a man and there were the Jews who followed Jesus. These Followers of Christ became Christians.
In the days of Martin Luther King, Jr. there was also a division between the blacks who were willing to walk the streets with him and the blacks who felt threatened by him.
Both men were very good men who made a huge impact during the time of their lives yet both men were considered "radicals" and politically dangerous for their particular group.
Now going back to the Jews and Jesus, The Jews who were shouting "Crucify him" were his followers - not the Jews who chose to avoid him. So when people like Mel Gibson proclaim that the Jews killed Jesus, that statement becomes an anti Semitic statement designed to create an illusion that ALL of the Jews were responsible for killing Jesus instead of the followers who would later be referred to as Christians - followers of Christ.
It is grossly irresponsible to label any race, creed or religion with a blanket statement. While it is true that some Jews were on hand when Jesus was crucified - it was a minority - not the majority. While it is true that those on hand would later be referred to as Christians - this does not make all Christians murders or bad people. While it is true that the majority of terrorist activities today are conducted by radical Islamic extremists - it does not make ever Muslim, Arab or Middle Easterner a terrorist.
People need to take responsibility for the words that they say and stop painting an entire race, creed or religion with one brush stroke. Mel Gibson has subscribed to Hitler’s’ "Jewish Problem" and he has painted the entire Jewish race as the cause of the world's problems.

No. This movie is a retelling of historic events. Why is it considered anti semitic? It simply tells how horrific crucifixion is and the tortures that Jesus endured in His final days.
Seriously, if you think this movie is anti semitic, please feel free to email me and explain your viewpoint. Maybe I am missing something.

Wouldn't change my opinion of him having seen the movie myself. I lost all respect for the man and apologize or not, the making of this movie surely indicates certain character flaws that could never be overcome by a mere apology. Personally, I am less concerned with any possible anti-semite feelings Mr. Gibson may harbour as I am the lack of responsible movie making he has displayed.
