Years ago the process involved typing out a hard copy of the book on un-bound letter-sized paper and mailing it to the publisher. In this day and age, is that still the process? Or is it possible to submit your book via e-mail? If both are done, is one preferred by published over the other?

Any links to websites that I might find helpful?

First, you need to get a copy of Writer's Digest, which gives you the address and publishing requirements of several thousand publishers. Yes, the process used to involve unbound pages, and yes, that process is still used, but there is a precursor to it. Now you submit an outline of your book (this is all set out in the Writer's Digest) which tells briefly what the story is about, and the length of the story. If the publishers are interested, they will ask for the first three chapters. If they are still interested, they will ask for the full book. At that point, they will tell you if they want it on diskette or in hard copy.
There are also electronic book publishers who publish on line and don't ever want to see a piece of paper. These are listed in Writer's Digest too.
Good luck with your book!

Try buying a copy of Writers Market. It isn't expensive (About 30.00) and lists publishers by name, what they publish and the manner they will accept manuscripts. Manuscripts can be sent on CD, Emailed, some only accept through agents and so on. There are publishers all over the web but be careful as some simply amount to printers. You Email your book, They accept it and you pay 750.00 to 3000.00 and they print it and send you how ever many copies you purchased. Writers market is published annually and can be bought on the web where it is updated all year long. It is my information bible as a writer.

Find a publisher who asks people if they wrote something (a lot of publishers have a team to read texts and decide to publish them or not) and send it to them. they may publish it free and then u get money,,,, :)
