No, Honestly wireless routers are slower. Unless your using a newer one. the bandwidth is what sets the speed. On the icon for your network on your computer you'll see a wireless router usually gets around 54Mbps. While with wired you'll get 100Mbps.
Aslo, if you live in appartments with wired you'll have more interference. An that will lower your transmition rate with lost packets.
With wired you'll have 100Mbps that will not be subject to interference from other transmitters. (phones, other routers, car allarms) So more packets will not be dropped and the speed will be still as fast.

Wireless is getting faster, but wired is generally going to be faster with fewer problems. I gave up trying to back up gigabytes of info over my wireless network and do it wired now. Takes minutes instead of hours now.
For general purposes, like surfing the net, wireless will seem just as fast.

wireless can be as fast, but the issue is that the wired lines get priority if there are wired and wireless computers on the network.
Wired is better in general, unless you need to be wireless.

If your just using the wireless network just to share an Internet connection, then you'll notice very little difference between an 802.11g and the new and more expensive 802.11n.
