My close friend was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. She's been telling me that their perfect marriage has changed from 'perfect' since she was diagnosed and her husband has become psychologically abusive to her....making her medical condition much harder to handle? He's verbally abusive and makes derogatory remarks about her and her condition. Any opionions on why he's doing this?

Some men cannot handle seeing someone they love become sick and the only way they can handle it is by fighting back. My husband always gets upset whenever I'm sick and then apologizes as soon as I'm better again. It sounds like he needs to find out who or what he is fighting. He is probably just scared.

I Think with some men....it is fear.

My Dad is that way with my Mom. Not to the extent that you are saying your friend's husband does. But if my Mom gets the flu or isn't feeling well....He gets angry at her which also makes her feel worse.

I think it might be their way of releasing their fear of losing them.
That's my opinion.
