Do I cry, or get the modern apprentice to clear it up?

Don't cry. In my experience modern apprentices can't make coffee for s.hit so get them to clear it up. What else are they for?

This is a bit of etiquette I introduce in a resturant.

Picture the scene someone drops a glass, it is the funniest thing that has ever happened, people applaud, roll about fit to wet themselves. (they should get out more often) Someone clears up the glass.

It is nice to clear up the mess for someone else. They can hide for a few seconds, cry if they want, and they can return the favour another time.

It only works if people return the favour, so do both, but return the favour.

1. Stare at the floor, incredulous.
2. Look up at the ceiling, and shake fists at the uncaring gods.
3. Lie down on the papers, kicking and scattering the pages around.
4. Curl into fetal position.
5. Deep sigh, then get up.
6. Arrange papers into pile.
7. Leave copy room with dignity.

Poor thing! Say, 'dammit!' and 'FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!', as many times as needed, then just ask the apprentice (politely, of course) to help you pick up all the letters.

You could kick the copier a couple of times as well. That always helps me.

Get down on your hands and knees and pick them all up, place in a neat pile at the side of yourself, stand up and brush yourself down, bend down and pick the letters up, don't drop them again will you, damn, butter fingers there they go again.
