1) Learn you speech (like the person above said)

2) Learn to control your breathing! It is important that you try to breathe at the same rate when practicing and in the real thing. (Attempt - don't worry if you fail)

3) Practice! Speak in a few novel situations first - not just your room. Speak to the trees! Speak to walls, lampposts, family, whatever! Just so it is not the first time you are speaking in a really different situation!

Make sure that you are familiar with your speech material. Focus on it from different aspects just in case you get stumped when you get in front of the class...this will allow you to be able to pick back up without standing there looking like a deer caught in headlights. Don't be too rigid with your material. Do a loose outline. You may get a bit off course during the speech but your outline should bring you back to the main point. Practice in front of the mirror, in front of some of your friends or family, in your car, wherever you can. Get used to saying what you have to say so it will be common to you. When the time comes to go up in front of the class, don't worry if you are nervous...that's normal. Relax as much as you can...breathe as normally as you can...swallow hard as many times as you need to...and get up there and just do it. If you make a mistake, get over it and get right back into it. Think to yourself what's the worst thing that could happen...they could throw rotten tomatoes at you. Well, that won't happen so tell yourself that you can handle whatever else comes. Just don't tense up to the point of no return. It's a speech and life will go on after it. That works for me.

Anybody could get a little nervous for a speech, but it is in the way you handle yourself that would make you confident. First, you've got to know your speech by heart. Then try to practice it with your friends or family. And on the speech itself, think that the crowd would not eat you and you know better than they do because after all--that's your speech, right?

If you still feel that your hands and voice are shaking before the speech itself, try to jump, walk, and stretch, these could ease the tension. Goodluck!

imagine everyone is sitting naked in front of you j/k. I usually just focus my eyes on the back wall or something. Don't look at the people and don't think about them. Concentrate on your speech and on what you're trying to get across. Think of yourself as the smart and educated one, and that you're there to teach these people a thing or two.

practice, practice, practice. Get very familiar with your material...like the back of your hand. Practice speaking in a mirror so you see how you look and get accustomed to looking at someone while you are speaking. Make an outline to refer to during your speech. (clean, neat and typed for easy viewing/reading.)Hopefully you won't need them, but it may bring a little comfort to know they are there just in case. During your actual speech, relax and try to enjoy it!

Just forget about it, Its not like you can ruin your reputation no matter how bad the speech goes. And if possible talk about something that you're actually interested in.

Imagine that everybody in the audience is in their underwear so you won't be quite as nervous. LOL Just take a few deep breaths, and you'll do just fine.

As Oprah once said, remember that they all poop just like you do!

Or you can try imagining them naked, or that you're standing infront of your friends - you can try focusing on them when you're talking.
