Yes, there's nothing wrong with having a bunch of good friends and no BEST friend.

No. Having a close best friend that u can truly rely on is very crucial. U can talk 2 them about anything and trust them wholeheartedly. I think it's a blessing to have a good companion. Most people don't even spend their time w/ large groups of people that they can truly call their friends. A lot of times there's just 1 or 2 people that will be there for u.

I think as you get older the best friend idea develops into having main contacts for different social circles, i.e. I have a really good friend at work that I can talk work with, but then I have a really good party mate that I can get drunk with, then I have my old school friend that I can reminisce with, and a college friend that I can have deep and meaningfuls with. I've got an older sister who I can have family chats with too. My more general best friend now, that I tend to do most with and confide in is my hubbie, but I need all those other people in my life too.

No. A more detailed answer would be: We all require a confidant, a person we can trust. So it depends mostly on your situation. I would suggest that if you are single and young, a minor by definition. It's almost imperative you have a friend to use as a sounding board. If you are in a relationship, your best friend, in an ideal situation, will be your partner/spouse. As humans we gravitate naturally to others that have similar interests and views. It allows our social nature room to grow mature, it gives us a companion to prevent loneliness. Gives us a cohort to get in trouble with. So, no, best friends aren't stupid, just don't abuse them.

Absolutely not. I had a couple of best friends among my good friends. I've been out of school for 29 years and I don't see or hear from all those good friends anymore, but me and my best friends are still in touch and probably always will be.

After a certain age kinda. I dated a guy that was 40 and he always referred to a friend like that. It just didn't sound right.
