Why so long? Couldn't have have done things much faster?

I stumbled upon the answer to this not so long ago, I don't know if you're ready for it... but here goes.

God hungers for human flesh.

Now wait, bear with me. God is omnipotent, right? So there had to be a million other ways he could have accomplished what he wanted to do (what exactly WAS that again? I digress), without jesus. So why choose this particular, EXTREMELY roundabout way (especially for an omnipotent being)? Let's see, first jesus was allowed to grow to full size, then he was beaten (tenderized) killed, and spent three days roasting (key word) in hell. Then (and here's the kicker) god take him up to heaven BODILY, not just his spirit as is customary, but flesh and all. What use is there for flesh in heaven but to calm a craving? It's obvious when you think about it.

Two things here. First of all, remember that we are looking at this event from our limited human perception. God exists outside of time, but we do not. Second, is that really so long? And does it matter how long it took? Or one better - is the miracle that Jesus walked among people again or that God broke the chains of death? Yes, God could have done things any ol' way God chose. The timing fulfills the scriptures.

Why 3 days? 2 reasons... First, that is how long Jonah was in the belly of a whale, which was in itself a prophesy of Christ's time in the grave. Secondly, this was the time the Jews said that a body "began to stink." It was at a point where the bodies started to decompose. This is significant because it was at this point that there was no doubt that someone was dead and could not be revived.

Well just think, if it was faster then people wouldnt have believed He was dead in the first place. But He did it to fullfill the Prophecy of Jonah being in the fishes belly for 3 days.

Apart from fulfilling his word, who would believe anybody could rise from the dead after 3 days? If just after 1-2 days you'll probably think he was not entirely dead in the first place.

23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
(New Testament | Matthew 17:23)

34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
(New Testament | Mark 10:34)

33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
(New Testament | Luke 18:33)

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
(New Testament | 1 Corinthians 15:4)

The scriptures said "on the Third day." not three days.

According to Jews, after sun down is the next day.

Christ was crucified on Friday before sun down, (first day), after sundown, through saturday (second day), then sunday morning, that is the third day.

Why the third day? Because according to Jewish belief, a man is truelly dead after the third day, so christ show the jews he truelly is the son of God, and has the power to resurrect himself.

um, jesus is the one that supposedly rose from the dead. God just exists, outside, inside, over, under and around time.

It wasn't God, it was Jesus Christ. And it was three days because He was wrestling the Devil to get the key to Hell so He can chain him up at the end of time.

He also said to the preists "Tear the temple down and I will rebuild it in three days"
