Remove the pits. Cut in halves or quarters. Fill a sterilized mason jar. Make a syrup of 2 cups sugar, 2 cups water, dash of lemon juice. Heat until sugar disolves. Till near boil. Pour over fruit and seal jar. (Make sure it seals) The jam and jelly receipes on the certo package work really well and taste great. I have made all kinds of jams from there.

Go to the store and get some sure-jell fruit pectin, you need it any way to can-it's got simple to follow recipes for most fruits. I used it when I made my first ever batch of strawberry jam and it was fabulous!!! good luck

Plums: Try a Chutney, with loads of ginger and other oriental spices, add a drop of honey or golden syrup and vinegar.Boil until it thickens up . Its great along with basmati-rice and roast chicken or fish.
Pears: Dry them in the oven,spice with cinnamon and cover with chocolate.

Check out your local library and see if they have any books on canning and preserving. If they don't then ask if they could get some. Most libraries are happy to get books their patrons are interested in if they just ask. =^-^=
