My sister has ulcers on the gastro intestinal tract which the doctors say are due to painkillers specially ibuprofen that she consumed recently. My question is why dont they prescribe injectible painkillers?

I think what you meant was"what alternatives does my sister have to oral pain meds which cause her gastrointestinal sores".....

If her pain meds are for a joint problem, steroids can be given in the doctor's office and they will help the pain over a few weeks. She can also be given a "patch" which is like a large band aid she puts on her skin, and a pain med is slowly dispensed through the skin.

Please ask her to consult with her doctor as to what will be the best way to treat her pain.

Best wishes

Because painkillers are very addictive and the law is hard on doctors who dispense an excessive amount of them. Now they can give an occasional shot for pain but I have heard doctors tell their patients that the law prohibits them from giving out extended amounts of painkillers. This is from my experience working in a hospital. I am a nurse assistant but I am also a cardiac assistant as well. I draw blood, do ekgs, read telemetry and work with doctors. If I did not know for sure the answer to a medical question I would not answer it at all.

Paracetamol can be used quite safely instead of ibuprofen or aspirin. Paracetamol is gentler on the stomach compared to the rest of the painkillers. Commerical brand of paracetamol is Panadol.
Veins tend to harden when you do too many injections and people may accidentally introduce air bubbles into their blood vessels or break the needle into the flesh.

because they know they'd be adding more drugs to the body. They are easier to take over the counter when consumed correctly, and cautiously. Would you really want to have to get a prescription for EVERY time you wanted a painkiller? I didn't think so.

Oh, if your sister has ulcers, tell her to drink YAKULT. It helps a lot. Also tell your sister not to drink carbonated drink, ice cream, chocolates, and no to sugar that makes her stomach full of gas. Also, tell her to eat more fruits rich in vitamin C, except mangoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes and pineapples. Try it, for there's no harm in trying.

Because they are addictive and there are alot of drug abusers out there, the docs can lose their liscenses for that, unfortunately. I am sorry your sister is suffering, I wish the doctors would give her something stronger. Good luck.

It seems sensible, doesn't it?

But, we're living in a world where there are people who can't bandage a wound without instructions. Think about such people with a needle..they'd hurt themselves for sure!
